An 85-year-old Idaho woman shot and killed an intruder in her home in what a county prosecutor called "one of the most heroic acts of self-preservation I have ever heard of."

Bingham County Prosecutor Ryan Jolley said in a case review that the woman, identified Wednesday as Christine Jenneiahn, acted in self-defense and ruled it was a case of justifiable homicide.

“The State has not provided evidence that LCMs are NOT commonly and lawfully owned or possessed by civilians for lawful purposes, including self-defense. The State: instead chose to provide expert opinions concluding only that LCMs are not commonly ‘fired for self-defense purposes’, or are not the best choice for self-defense, neither of which are relevant metrics,” he wrote.

Bashor, who has been a judge in the rural county since 2011, also pointed to the Founding Fathers in his decision.

We are in the golden era of good self-defense and firearms training for the armed citizen. Still, what people need, as opposed to what they find more entertaining, remains an issue within this small, niche industry. High-round count classes that seek to shave hundredths of a second off your red-dot presentation are what a lot of people seem to want to take. While improving shooting skills is important, it accounts for only one part of the overall skillset needed to defend one’s self and loved ones in an increasingly dangerous and complicated world.

Lt. Kristopher Shultz said previously that preliminary investigated showed that Brock had been contacted by strangers who told him his relative was in the Clark County Jail and he needed to pay cash to post bail. The caller provided pertinent information for the case and the posting of bail, “all of which was bogus information,” the lieutenant said.

The caller and Brock spoke multiple times regarding the situation, Shultz said previously, “with the resident being hesitant and resistant to complying with the instructions of the caller.”

Shultz previously said the caller threatened violence against Brock and his family. When Hall went to Brock’s house, he produced a pistol and shot her multiple times.

Ja Morant acted in self-defense when a teenager accused the two-time NBA All-Star of punching him during a pickup game at the home of the Memphis Grizzlies guard’s parents in 2022, a judge has ruled.

Shelby County Court Circuit Judge Carol Chumney cited Tennessee law on when the issue of self-defense can be raised, and she wrote in a ruling issued Monday that Morant “enjoys a presumption of civil immunity.”

The judge wrote that “a provocateur generally cannot invoke self-defense; if you start a fight, then you should be ready to finish it” under Tennessee law. She also noted the only provocateur in this situation was the plaintiff, Joshua Holloway, with everyone else just wanting to play basketball.

A man was killed Wednesday morning in what police are calling a “justified shooting” in Hialeah. The shooter is not facing charges. Around 2:40 a.m., Christian Rueda, 26, arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s house, in the 4500 block of West 13th Lane, with “unknown intentions,” said Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, a Hialeah police spokesperson. When he approached the front door, a friend of his ex-girlfriend, 23-year old Omar Jamal Huggins, was walking out. Rueda confronted and then began attacking him, Rodriguez said.

Two people arguing over whatever, and somebody pulls a gun and starts shooting, that’s not self-defense. But the story from Rich Nye, he talks about somebody breaking into a guy’s home, the homeowner wrestles the gun away from the intruder, shoots the intruder. Then he talks about an abusive boyfriend is attacking a girlfriend, she defends herself, shoots him and saves her own life. And that’s in the context of them saying, “community leaders are concerned about this.”

A group of men hanging out in an East Nashville, Tenn., housing complex first turned into a pistol-whipping robbery attempt before becoming a full-on a bullet-flying defensive fracas. The details of the event in numerous outlets were as muddled and shady as the likely group involved. In the end, however, police have corroborated enough to be investigating the death of one individual in the apartment as a justified defensive shooting.

...taught primarily through videos and online resources and would teach things like firearm storage, school safety, and how to avoid getting hurt if a student finds a gun and to immediately notify an adult if a gun is found. The bill stipulates the lessons will “not include the use or presence of live ammunition, live fire, or live firearms.”

“This curriculum would be developed to instruct children on how to properly stay away from a firearm if they happen to see a firearm, and what to do as far as reporting if they find a firearm,” Republican Sen. Paul Bailey said during Thursday’s session.

The bill requires that lessons be “viewpoint neutral on political topics, such as gun rights, gun violence, and the Second Amendment.”

In the succeeding months before the publication of the Bruen decision, her government meticulously crafted amendments to the Handgun Law that, when implemented, would provide an adequate, if not ideal, substitute for “Proper Cause.”

Plainly, Hochul had no intention of complying with the U.S. Supreme Court rulings. The Court’s Article III authority be damned.

Her defiance of the U.S. Supreme Court rulings amounts to blatant disregard for and contempt for the U.S. Constitution, the foundation of a Free Constitutional Republic.

“Under this regulation, it will not matter if guns are sold on the internet, at a gun show, or at a brick-and-mortar store: if you sell guns predominantly to earn a profit, you must be licensed, and you must conduct background checks,” Garland told reporters.

The Justice Department said the new rule, which goes into effect 30 days after it is submitted, would affect roughly 23,000 unlicensed dealers. It has the potential to impact tens of thousands of gun sales each year. It also allows for better tracing of guns that are found at crime scenes, including mass shootings.

A group of gun owners and Second Amendment advocates asked a federal judge to force Los Angeles County to issue concealed carry permits without delay, claiming that the current 18-month wait violates their constitutional rights.

U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett didn't issue a ruling on their request for a preliminary injunction at a hearing Wednesday afternoon in downtown LA. The judge indicated she may request additional briefing before she takes the motion under submission.

In a move sure to draw the ire of Second Amendment advocates, the White House on Thursday approved the most sweeping changes to mandatory federal background checks on gun transfers in generations.

The move, the administration argues, is authorized under the aegis of the byzantine 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act which was rushed through Congress in near record time with a modicum of Republican support. The mechanism for the expansion of background checks is the 466-page final rule announced by the Department of Justice which would update the current definition of what is it to be 'Engaged in the Business' as a Firearms Dealer.

President Joe Biden made numerous false claims about the Second Amendment during an interview that aired this week on Univision.

Biden made the remarks during the interview, which aired Tuesday, when asked by Enrique Acevedo about his anti-gun agenda, especially as it pertains to parts of the country that have large numbers of Latinos that have experienced mass shootings.

When asked if he would take “executive action” to limit America’s Second Amendment rights if he wins re-election, Biden responded: “Absolutely. Look, I, along with Dianne Feinstein, passed the first limitation on assault weapons and the number of bullets that could be in a rifle. The idea anybody needs 100 rounds on a rifle and an AR-15.”

Today, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced that the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has issued an injunction pending appeal in its FPC v. San Diego lawsuit, which challenges a California law that targets only pro-Second Amendment advocates with potentially ruinous consequences for litigating gun rights cases. This is at the centre of the debate over mass shootings (at least four deaths) in the US, which accounted for one-third of such incidents from around the world between 1962 and 2016. According to the Gun Violence Archive, between 2020 and 2023, America saw at least 600 incidents of mass shooting each year (610, 690, 647 and 656 respectively). The country records an average of 118 deaths per day (yes, per day) due to gun violence. In 2023 alone, the US saw 42,987 gun-violence deaths.

As in the Metcalf Gun Free School Zone case, the plea agreement preserves the right to appeal the judge’s denial of the motion to dismiss on the grounds the federal law is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. From the plea agreement:

3. The United States acknowledges that this is a conditional plea pursuant to Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure ll(a)(2), and that Brennan Comeaux reserved his right to appeal the Court s adverse ruling as to his Motion to Dismiss and, should such appeal be successful, Brennan Comeaux shall be allowed to withdraw his guilty plea.

The battle over a Washington state law banning so-called “large-capacity magazines” was struck down by a Cowlitz County Superior Court judge only to have State Attorney General Bob Ferguson scramble a request for a stay to the state Supreme Court, where a court commissioner—not an elected justice—granted the motion 88 minutes later.

Ferguson, a Democrat currently running to become the state’s next governor and who supported the magazine ban when it became law in 2022, issued a statement in which he declared the judge’s ruling was “incorrect.”

A judge in Washington ruled that the state’s ban on high-capacity magazines was unconstitutional.

In 2023, Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit against a gun store for selling the magazines despite the ban. The law banned the sale, import, manufacturing, and distribution of ammunition magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds.

Judge Gary Bashor said his ruling was “consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation,” referring to a 2022 United States Supreme Court ruling. That ruling changed how lower courts ruled on gun laws, stating they can no longer consider if laws serve the public interest for things such as public safety.

The measure isn't yet law.

The House companion bill, HB 1202, technically only needs a final vote in the lower chamber after passing through committees last year. The bill is currently being "held on the desk," a procedural term that means the bill is in a holding pattern unless someone moves to remove it from the table.

Republicans have overwhelmingly supported the bill, which was initially filed in January 2023 but has been cited as a potential school security measure in the wake of The Covenant School shooting last March. Democrats oppose the measure, which has also attracted hundreds of gun-reform protestors who oppose a GOP supermajority-led trend of expanding access to firearms in Tennessee.

Although the draft ordinance clarifies that every person traveling with a firearm should ensure that the glove compartment be locked, the revised draft leaves out the word "locked," and replaces the word “parked” in reference to vehicles with the word “unoccupied.”

Infractions under the new ordinance would constitute city code violations, and potential penalties include a fine not to exceed $1,000 or no more than 30 days in jail, Johnson has said. The draft ordinance comes in response to crime stats that show the majority of guns stolen from vehicles come from unlocked cars.
