In a ruling today that will likely please only Second Amendment advocates and the ghost of Warren Zevon, the Arkansas Supreme Court held that lawyers are entitled to carry guns into courthouses — but not courtrooms, at least not yet — around the state.
The opinion, written by Justice Shawn Womack, disagreed with a Pulaski County Circuit Court’s decision that lawyers were barred from carrying firearms into Arkansas courthouses under Amendment 80 to the Arkansas Constitution. Plaintiffs in a federal challenge of the Illinois Public Transit carry ban have filed a brief in support of an earlier motion for summary judgment in the case.
The case is financially supported by the Second Amendment Foundation.
The case is known as Schoenthal v. Raoul and is currently in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Western Division.
Plaintiffs are Benjamin Schoenthal, Mark Wroblewski, Joseph Vesel, and Douglas Winston. They are represented by attorney David G. Sigale of Lombard, Ill. |

After a series of marathon voting sessions this week, three more gun safety measures passed the Maine Senate and House of Representatives. They include expanded background checks, a 72-hour waiting period for certain purchases and a ban on devices like bump stocks that turn firearms into illegal weapons.
However, a last-minute red flag bill introduced by House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross (D-Portland) never made it to the House and Senate floors. The proposal was scheduled for a vote Wednesday — the last day of the session — but a lengthy budget debate upended plans. |

Defense attorney Javier Solano told CBS New York the story that has come out is wrong.
"They made it seem like he is this monster that goes around stabbing and hurting people," Solano said.
But Kelly's attorney insists he has proof it was self-defense.
"The video surveillance that I've been shown shows at least five young females beating him," he said.
Kelly's attorney is also looking to have Kelly charged with manslaughter instead of murder.
The suspect's family was emotional over the judge denying his attorney's request for reasonable bail. Instead, Kelly was remanded and sent back to prison. |

On July 1, Senate Bill 10, the Campus Self-Defense Act, will take effect in West Virginia.
Passed by the West Virginia Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Jim Justice in 2023, it allows a person to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on the grounds of an institution of higher education, with some exceptions, if that person has a current and valid license to carry a concealed deadly weapon. The University must comply with the law. |

Thanks to a successful leftist smear campaign, most Americans now see militia members as being nothing more than drooling, wacko, camo-clad, right-wingers sipping Black Rifle coffee in their backyard pillbox, stupidly unaware the FBI has a drone watching them from above.
Militias date back to the origins of the United States and earlier. They were created for the same reasons we are seeing a resurgence in militias today: to stand up against a government that can't be trusted.

More than half of all states have some type of law allowing teachers and other school employees to carry concealed guns on campus, according to data compiled by the Giffords Law Center.
Iowa is the most recent state to push for more guns, with lawmakers this week sending a bill to the governor that would allow teachers and other school employees to obtain permits to carry guns on school grounds.

This week a Republican state representative said he plans to say no to a bill that would allow teachers to carry a concealed gun.
The bill is currently being held on the desk in the House, which means it’s on hold. The bill passed through committees in the House last year, but it was put on hold after The Covenant School shooting. The sponsor, Rep. Ryan Williams. R-Cookeville, would have to make a motion to take it off before the end of session.
Some moms who have students at The Covenant School said they want the bill to die. They hope with Rep. Kevin Raper’s voice he can influence other lawmakers. |

A Houston teenager was forced to defend himself and his mother yesterday night when he shot two would-be robbers at an apartment complex, one of whom died at the scene. The incident, which occurred around 10:50 p.m. on the 7700 block of Corporate Drive, allegedly began with a transaction gone awry. According to Houston Police, two teens assaulted the victim with brass knuckles, then demanded he retrieve valuables from his apartment. Upon entering, the teen received a gun from his mother and subsequently shot both assailants when they continued to threaten him and demand his possessions, as FOX 26 Houston reported. |

The bill lists dozens of guns by name while defining “assault weapon” to include a handgun “that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine.”
That includes nearly every pistol such as the Glock 19 found in more than 5 million American homes. The law would include any gun that: 1. shoots a centerfire round, which is anything more powerful than a .22 caliber rimfire; 2. accepts a magazine (typical rifles and handguns); and 3. is semiautomatic, meaning it fires one round and self-loads.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office says the charges have been dropped on the man who reportedly shot another man in the foot and says the incident is possibly self-defense.
Spokane County Sheriff’s Detectives says, "after reviewing this information, the evidence, and consulting with prosecutors, have requested the charges against Utecht be dropped due to his actions at this time, potentially being committed in self-defense."
On April 17, around 7:05 p.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 10900 block of North McCoy Road in Newman Lake. Deputies say the caller stated a man was shot in the foot and the suspect left the scene in a car. |

Baton Rouge authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident at a local motel that resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Monday evening.
The event occurred approximately at 8:10 PM at the Fountain Motel located near the intersection of Airline Highway and Goodwood Boulevard. The police have identified one of the deceased as 28-year-old Michael Beverly, who is believed to have initiated the confrontation. |

The ISRA’s executive director, Richard Pearson, said one of the legislative priorities this year is to defeat a proposal to suspend one’s driver’s license when their FOID card is taken away. Pearson says the two really aren’t related – and that most revocations are for administrative reasons.
“It just happens to be, maybe you forgot to pay it,” said Pearson.

If we ever choose a new federal holiday, I hope it’s April 19, which is very much worth celebrating. Not only would it inspire more appreciation for the courage of our founders, but it could also inform debate about the scope of the Second Amendment.
We think of our nation being “born” on July 4, 1776, with the Declaration of Independence. Extending that same carnal metaphor, the date of our nation’s conception would be April 19, 1775, preceded by years of foreplay leading up to the event. |

Democratic State Sen. Tom Sullivan, who emerged as one of Colorado’s staunchest advocates for stricter gun laws after his son was murdered in the Aurora theater shooting, could end up being the deciding vote against one of the most sweeping gun policies ever considered by state lawmakers.
He sits on the Senate’s State Veterans and Military Affairs Committee, which will determine whether a ban on so-called assault weapons moves forward or fails. If the bill passes out of the committee, it will head to the full Senate for a vote, where its chances of passing are high. |
