California Democrat Maxine Waters is the new chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee. To judge from the party’s past behavior and the various proposals emanating from the left, Waters’s Democrats are going to pressure banks, credit unions, and payment companies to severely curtail and even terminate their relationships with firearm manufacturers, licensed gun retailers, and law-abiding citizens exercising their right to purchase and own firearms. In other words, they will use political pressure to force private institutions into creating social policy that threatens constitutional rights. |

Northam’s gun proposals violate Second Amendment
Gov. Ralph Northam’s new gun control legislation is unconstitutional and tyrannical. The Extreme Risk Protective Order is a violation of due process, since the owner of the firearms will have no notice that the court is actively attempting to take them away. The ban on “assault weapons” is a despicable attempt to rob the people of their rights.
Nowhere in the Second Amendment will you find an allowance for some restriction on the right to bear arms. The definition used is incredibly broad: “any firearm with a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition,” according to the Virginian-Pilot. |

Last month, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that the state’s controversial “stand your ground” statute applies to police officers, just as it does to civilians. The ruling radically expanded the boundaries of justifiable homicide to grant police immunity from arrest, criminal prosecution, and a jury trial when they claim—even in spite of overwhelming contradicting evidence—to have killed in self-defense. This modification represents the latest in a steadily creeping distortion of justice that intensifies the “shoot first, ask questions later” logic of weaponized self-defense. |

FL: Florida bill seeks to repeal post-Parkland gun control measures

State Rep. Mike Hill, a Republican elected in November, filed the bill that would essentially repeal a number of measures passed into law in March 2018 as a part of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act signed into law in March.
The new bill, HB 175, which would remove a mandatory waiting period to purchase firearms other than handguns and a provision which raised the age to purchase a rifle from 18 to 21.
It also would seek to repeal provisions that would allow law enforcement to seize firearms from people who may pose a danger to themselves or others, a measure sometimes referred to as a "red flag law." |

The Illinois State Rifle Association announced Monday the Kankakee County Board would hold a hearing the next day on a resolution designating the county a “gun sanctuary.”
Urged to attend, dozens of Second Amendment supporters packed the meeting room and the hallway outside for the board’s monthly session Tuesday. The association warned protesters might show up, “so please remember to be on your best behavior.”
The problem: The issue wasn’t on the agenda. |

The 7 percent tax would generate about $22 million, the lawmakers said. Currently, some 600 schools lack an SRO, reportedly because the affected school districts lack funding.
While the bill’s sponsors say they are not interested in using it as a stepping stone toward more gun control, they are overlooking the fact that the surcharge might well keep defensive guns out of the hands of those who have less disposable income, and thus could deter some South Carolinians from exercising their Second Amendment rights. |

CONTRARY TO popular belief, the New Hampshire House will NOT be a gun-free zone.
Any violent extremist who thinks that we’ve become a soft target needs to reassess the situation.
Many state representatives view the right of self-defense as a natural right, one that has been recognized by the New Hampshire and U.S. Constitutions. Our right to self-defense cannot be infringed by any government body.
Due to our willingness to exercise our constitutional rights and because any attempt to disarm House members is foolish public policy, we reserve the right to refuse to comply. |

HR8 requires that loans, gifts, and sales of firearms be processed by a gun store. The same fees, paperwork, and permanent record-keeping apply as to buying a new gun from the store. If you loan a gun to a friend without going to the gun store, the penalty is the same as for knowingly selling a gun to a convicted violent felon. Likewise, when the friend returns the gun, another trip to the gun store is necessary, upon pain of felony.
A clever trick in HR8 effectively bans handguns for persons 18-20. |

A 25-year-old woman with a concealed carry license is being praised for shooting and killing a 19-year-old man who attempted to rob her at a bus station in Chicago.
According to surveillance video obtained by CBS Chicago, the unnamed 25-year-old woman was waiting at a bus stop, alone, early Tuesday morning. Police report that a 19-year-old approached her and pointed a gun at her in an attempt to rob her. The woman then pulled out her gun and shot the man in the neck. |

Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley this week co-sponsored legislation that would expand federal background checks to all gun sales.
They said the Background Check Expansion Act would fix federal law that unlicensed or private sellers are not required to conduct a background check prior to transferring a firearm.
“Students, parents and teachers throughout Oregon ask me often during town halls and other meetings why Congress can’t come together to reduce gun violence with common-sense legislation,” Wyden said. |

The highly anticipated school safety bill filed Wednesday is “a starting point” for lawmakers as they consider ways to boost security in classrooms across Kentucky, the measure’s sponsor said.
Sen. Max Wise, a Campbellsville Republican and chairman of the Senate Education Committee, said he expects some legislators will say Senate Bill 1 goes too far in addressing security concerns in response to last year’s fatal shooting at Marshall County High School while others will say the bill doesn’t go far enough. |
