Donnie James Strickland, of Anderson, died after being shot Sunday, according to the Anderson County Coroner's Office.

The DA's office declined this week to file murder charges in the January 5 killing of 32-year-old Emma Hunt in the Tenderloin.

Two suspects, a 17-year-old juvenile and 18-year-old Kevin Lopez-Figueroa were arrested last Friday and remain in custody on gun charges. The incident remains under investigation, as the DA's office tells the Chronicle, but signs point to possible self-defense after witnesses describe Hunt acting in a threatening manner, possibly holding a knife, and "swinging a crate" prior to her being shot at 4 a.m. on January 5.

South Dakota legislators are able to carry concealed in the Capitol during the legislative session for the first time, thanks to a bill passed last year.

Lawmakers with enhanced carry permits that also notify the Highway Patrol—which provides security at the Capitol—at least 24 hours in advance may now carry concealed during the 2020 legislative session, the first since the bill’s passage.

SB115 (2019) passed by votes of 20-13 and 44-19 in the state Senate and House of Representatives, respectively. Gov. Kristi Noem signed the bill into law on March 18, 2019, and it went into effect on July 1 of the same year.

Those who wish to disarm Virginians have created a trap to frame Second Amendment Supporters as violent white supremacists, going to Richmond to destroy duly elected government.

Do not take the bait.

A Denver police officer has been arrested after a woman he met during an investigation last month accused him of sexual assault, authorities said Saturday.

Johnny Leon-Alvarez, 29, was booked at the Denver Detention Center in the investigation of a sexual assault reported early Friday and was suspended without pay, the Denver Police Department said in a statement. He has been a Denver police officer since 2018.

The woman said in her statement that they had a “couple of shots and a couple of beers” before Leon-Alvarez drove her home just after midnight on Friday. She said she does not remember how Leon-Alvarez got into her house, where she told him “no” and tried to push him off of her.

A botched armed robbery resulted in the death of one of three suspects one Friday night in Texas. After approaching a home cookout, two of the three suspected robbers produced firearms and attempted to rob the guests. Unfortunately for them, this was a Texas cookout, and at least one of the guests was armed. The man in question, who was a licensed handgun carrier, drew his sidearm and shot one suspect. The other two robbers remain at large.

Bills that gun rights activists support, and bills that gun-control advocates favor, are all on the agenda at a Minnesota Senate field hearing tomorrow afternoon (Tues 1pm) in Hibbing -- although no votes will be taken. Senate Republican Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says he wanted the hearing where people in Greater Minnesota can have more of a voice. Lawmakers will get public input on universal background checks and a "red flag" law, and on "stand your ground" legislation which would change Minnesota's self-defense laws.

Thousands of gun rights activists converged on the capitol campus in Richmond, Virginia without any problems or injuries, despite what amounted to several days of hysteria on the part of anti-gun Gov. Ralph Northam, who had temporarily banned all weapons from the area around the Capitol.

What turned out to be one of the largest pro-Second Amendment gatherings in recent memory, the “Lobby Day” event drew several speakers and legions of angry gun owners who were there to send a message to the General Assembly: No more gun control.

The number of Texas counties declaring themselves a “second amendment sanctuary” continues to grow. But the verbiage has changed. More than 50 Texas county commissioners courts have passed pro-Second Amendment resolutions. "I wanted to make sure the people in Montgomery County knew that if anybody were to try to do something as far as confiscate your guns, take your ammunition or keep you from buying ammunition or keep you from buying guns, I wanted them to know that we have their back," says Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley.

Much to the disappointment of the liberal Hispanic news media, the violence, blood and death they predicted would happen at the demonstrations held in Richmond in favor of the Second Amendment, did not materialize. Doomsday seemed imminent as they forecasted that white supremacists would reprise what happened in Charlotesville in 2017, thus effectively amalgamating white supremacism with the constitutional right to bear arms.

I’m pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment, and completely opposed to Virginia Democrats’ gun control agenda. But the "Second Amendment sanctuaries" cropping up around rural Virginia in response to pending anti-gun legislation in the state Senate are an affront to the rule of law and threaten the viability of our entire electoral system.

On January 17th, the Washington House Civil Rights & Judiciary Committee held a hearing on House Bill 2467 to modernize firearm background checks in Washington and reduce delays. House Bill 2467 was introduced by a bipartisan group of legislators who have recognized that background checks in Washington have imposed excessive delays on gun owners. Background checks for handgun transfers are done in an archaic manner by mail to local law enforcement, who are tasked with manually checking databases.

SIG Sauer hosted a range-day event the weekend before SHOT Show 2020, and we were in attendance to see (and shoot) some of the company's new-for-2020 offerings. Of greatest interest to us, of course, were the new self-defense and concealed carry handguns, and SIG had several for us to investigate. Technically, the three that we highlight in this video are all line extensions—updated versions of existing products. But, they're all new for 2020 and pretty darn cool.

Monday, Jan. 20 is the Virginia Citizens’ Defense League Lobby Day in Virginia, and Slate has asked an important question: “Why are militia groups descending on Virginia?” The answer requires some background information. Governor Ralph Northam has long yearned for a disarmed citizenry, but without the Democratic Party holding a trifecta in the state government, he has been kept from his dream. Now he has exactly that, and once again he and his gun-grabbing pals are pushing various bills designed to infringe upon the right of Virginians to keep and bear arms.

The mother of Heather Heyer, a Virginia woman killed at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville in 2017, owns a gun, and she said some proposed gun restrictions in the state might go too far. "I grew up with guns," Bro told CNN on Monday as the crowd gathered. "I believe in common-sense gun measures but not extreme measures."

There’s been a massive wave of public resistance in Virginia to gun regulations proposed by the recently-elected and Democratic-dominated state legislature there. This winter, supporters of gun rights across the state filled local meetings and, in more than 130 jurisdictions, fought for resolutions to become “Second Amendment Sanctuaries,” which dozens have passed.

While Virginia’s Attorney General says the measures hold no legal weight, they affirm that sheriffs and county officials plan to refuse to enforce what they say are unconstitutional state or federal gun regulations.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd. — Alexis de Tocqueville
