As a new state legislative session dawns, gun control advocates are renewing their call for change. That tragedy was front and center at a CeaseFirePA rally at the Capitol Tuesday. Governor Tom Wolf made an appearance, telling the crowd he believes common-sense gun restrictions have growing bipartisan support.

The Left Coast is pushing forward with its gun control agenda. Dominated by liberals on coastal cities, Oregon and California have already passed restrictive gun control laws. It’s as expected from these progressive bastions. Oregon is proposing laws that would make the only legal firearms to own in the state the ones that Davy Crockett used. I exaggerate, but you get my point. Washington looks to complete the West Coast’s evisceration of gun rights.

Did we pass gun control laws to do good or to feel good? Like many public policy issues, we think we’re talking about evidence when we’re really discussing how we feel.

Things don’t turn out the way we imagined or the way we wanted. We make good-sounding excuses for bad ideas.

What Second Amendment advocates considered an “extremist” gun control measure when they opposed it, I-1639 — passed by slightly less than 60 percent of voters, in only 12 of the state’s 39 counties — is being challenged in federal district court by the National Rifle Association and Second Amendment Foundation.

But top law enforcers — sheriffs in many of the state’s counties — are “just saying ‘no’” to enforcing provisions of the measure, at least until the court challenge plays out, the newspaper said.

“It is interesting to hear certain kinds of people insist that the citizen cannot fight the government. This would have been news to the men of Lexington and Concord, as well as the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. The citizen most certainly can fight the government, and usually wins when he tries. Organized national armies are useful primarily for fighting against other organized national armies.

Six years after the state passed the controversial SAFE Act, a new round of gun control bills — equally as controversial — are a signature away from becoming law. Both chambers of the Democratic-led state Legislature passed a series of gun reforms Tuesday. They include banning bump stocks, barring school districts from letting teachers be armed and creating a municipal gun buy-back program.
