Proposition 63 regulates gun and ammunition sales.

It bans possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines and requires certain people to pass a background check in order to buy ammunition.

Supporters say it will keep guns and ammunition out of the wrong hands, by closing loopholes in existing law, while protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens to own guns for self-defense, hunting and recreation.

The New York Times (NYT) is encouraging voters in states with gun control on the ballot to vote for stronger regulations under the guise that more gun control equals less crime.

Meanwhile, gun-controlled Chicago is nearing 600 homicides for 2016 alone.

According to the NYT, “analysis” from George Soros-funded Center for American Progress shows that “gun fatalities in states with weaker laws are three times as high as in those states with tougher restrictions.” Based on this, the paper calls for voters in “California, Maine, Nevada, and Washington” to support gun control measures that will be on the ballot next month.

According to recent reports along the U.S. border with Mexico, the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the United States is again spiking, and could rival the wave of illegal crossings in 2014. Facing this problem, one would hope that a priority for federal immigration officials would be to focus on employing new technologies to improve chances for catching criminals who have thus come into our country. Federal immigration officials, however, appear more interested in using new-fangled technology to intimidate and harass American citizens who decide simply to drop by lawful gun shows.

Recent calls for universal background checks for all sales of guns in America have come from Hillary Clinton and, here in Vermont, from Sue Minter and David Zuckerman. This issue bears some examination, because the ease with which many Americans are being drawn into such a change of our laws reveals how little they understand about their Constitution.

If the government insisted that because of the risks associated with abortion all women contemplating an abortion must first obtain government approval, there would be a shrill outcry.

The Alliance for Gun Responsibility and Everytown for Gun Safety spent more than five times as much promoting I-594. In November that year, I-594 passed by a roughly 19-point margin; voters rejected the gun-rights counter-initiative.

Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation in Bellevue, said it makes more sense to try to overturn I-1491 after it becomes law, through a challenge in the courts or through the Legislature.

“It’s not worth spending millions of dollars when the other side is going to spend a fortune,” said Gottlieb. He added later: “We’ll let the other side spend their money on 1491 and we’ll spend our money on the legislative races.”

On behalf of our five million members across the country, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse Mia Love for U.S. House in Utah’s 4th Congressional District.

Based on her support of and commitment to the Second Amendment, Love has earned an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF in the November 8, 2016 election. An “A” rating is reserved for a solidly pro-gun legislator who has supported the NRA’s position on votes of importance to gun owners.

A business owner who shot an alleged shooter is not being charged because of Wisconsin self-defense laws.

Surveillance video shows owner of Gibbons Auto Service, Dave Gibbons, shooting 37-year-old Amy Zielke after he says she broke into his business in the town of Holland early Monday morning.

According to the La Crosse County district attorney, it was within his rights to do so.

"It appears to me that DA has made decision that property owner was defending himself, apparently wife was upstairs, his wife and property and under those circumstances, the Castle Doctrine comes in to play,” partner at La Crosse law firm Johns, Flaherty & Collins Cheryl Gill said.

I got a message this morning from a Missouri man who describes himself as a former reader of our Facebook page.

Have had enough of your anti open carry nonsense. Might want to look into renaming the page, as it’s currently falsely advertised. You just lost a ‘Like.’

Sigh.

Ed.: Yes, being anti-open carry is anti-Second Amendment. You cannot argue against exercising the fundamental right protected by the 2A and still be 'pro 2A'.

NRA Sticking With Trump, Breaks Own Record for Campaign Spending

As many Republican leaders abandon Donald Trump — and some donors ask for their money back — one deep-pocketed supporter has remained generous and steadfast: the National Rifle Association.

The NRA is spending more than it ever has on elections this year — more than $36 million at last count, with another four weeks until Election Day, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

And Trump is by far the largest beneficiary, with the NRA spending more than $21 million to help him: $9.6 million on ads and other pro-Trump materials, and another $12 million attacking Hillary Clinton, whom the organization sees as a threat to nominate a Supreme Court justice seen as unsympathetic to gun rights.

I served in the Navy and very proud of it. I am also proud to support a fellow Navy man such as Congressman Ryan Zinke. I listened to the debates, I read the articles, and I watch the commercials. Denise Juneau is falsely advertising that Zinke has voted to sell public lands; she has attacked a combat veteran about his earned benefits and disability pay, and is even saying she supports the Second Amendment. As a lifelong member of the NRA, Juneau’s party has been screaming about taking away Second Amendment rights. They blast the NRA and they blast law abiding citizens that cherish their rights to the Second Amendment.

The gift of being a photojournalist is the access it provides into the lives of people you would otherwise never have met.

A couple weeks ago, I took on a last-minute assignment to photograph the Second Amendment Club’s excursion to a rifle range outside of Marietta, Ohio.

Let me preface that by explaining that my parents are anti-war protesters who preach nonviolence, meaning that I have never seen, let alone held, a gun ever in my life. They even picked through our Lego sets to weed out and discard any tiny Lego guns they came across.

Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will return to Newtown in support of U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty Saturday as part of a national campaign to bolster gun control efforts in Congress.

"Stopping gun violence takes courage, the courage to do what's right ... I've seen great courage when my life was on the line," Giffords said in Portsmouth, N.H, Wednesday, during a stop on the Americans for Responsible Solutions "Vocal Majority" tour. "Now is the time to come together, be responsible. Democrats, Republicans, everyone. We must never stop fighting."

It should be noted that Clinton’s suggestion that “thousands of children die” from guns is not accurate. The left justifies such phraseology by counting teens under the age of 18 as children. This allows them to use teens who are prime age for gang activity–ages 15 to 17–as examples of children who have been killed with guns.

There are few issues more important to Americans than gun policy. According to Gallup, 72 percent of American voters identified gun policy as being “very important” to their 2016 vote decision. Recent polls also show more than 80 percent of Americans see gun violence as a serious or very serious problem.

Despite the high levels of interest in this issue, Congress decided to bend to the NRA’s preferences and has severely limited the federal government’s ability to conduct research on gun violence over the past 20 years by banning any gun-related research that could be policy-relevant. As a result, the state of data collection on gun violence is abysmal. Without good and timely information, it’s hard to press for specific changes.

On the morning of April 4, 2015, Hoeun Kraus was visiting her sons and bringing them food when one of the sons, Viseth Ear, who had a history of drug use, became confused and began attacking her.

As Ear held his mother down and hit her repeatedly, his brother, Sony Uk, came out of his bedroom.

“What you do to mom? Why you hit mom?” he asked Ear, then shot him. As Ear stood up to face Uk, a second shot rang out. Uk fired a third shot one or two seconds later.

Kraus and Ear both ran out of the house and received medical attention. Uk fled the scene but was arrested a short time later. Ear was charged with aggravated battery and Uk was charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter.

She visited Portland on Wednesday to urge Mainers to vote yes on Question 3.

Congresswoman Giffords pleaded with Mainers to do what they can to make it harder for firearms to fall into the wrong hands.

Giffords was joined at the "Yes on 3" rally by Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuk, who believes a yes vote on Question 3 will make the state a safer place to live and close the loopholes that currently exist in gun purchases.

But those who against the proposed change say if officials wanted this measure to be about stopping gun violence, it should have been worded differently. They say if it passes, responsible Maine gun owners could face serious consequences for things that are a part of Maine's hunting culture.

While Californians’ right to keep and bear arms, as in the rest of the country, is nominally covered under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, a “Yes” vote would in theory give state lawmakers a mandate to protect gun rights from future perceived encroachments. Such measures have proven popular in recent years in other states and most enshrine the right in some form — but not California.
