It should come as no surprise to learn that politicians lie, but Phil Bredesen’s staff members have owned up to the fact that their candidate has gotten caught trying to hoodwink Tennessee voters in a big way, all in the name of political expediency. James O'Keefe's Project Veritas Action last week released a video showing the slap in the face to registered voters. An undercover “journalist” met with some of Bredesen’s staff members and talked about the candidate’s view on Brett Kavanaugh. Bredesen’s campaign had mentioned during a stump event that if the Democrat Senate candidate were a senator, he would have voted to confirm Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice.

Frederick Hopkins only fired three of the guns on Oct. 3 — a pistol and two military assault rifles, said Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, who first put the total number of guns in the home at 129, then said it was still an approximation.

What happens when worldviews collide? There may be no better example than the controversy that passes for legislation in the nation’s capital today. The two-party system of government is adversarial by nature, providing a vehicle for voters with differing opinions and beliefs to take sides with the political party that best represents their interests. But in recent years the philosophical divide has grown deeper and more entrenched, and despite frequent calls for bipartisanship from beleaguered voters, that’s the last thing most voters actually want.

Is it shocking? No, not really. These are politicians—and politicians lie. But when you’re one of the most vulnerable Democrats running for re-election, it’s probably best not to say you’re for gun bans in a deep red state that broke heavily for Trump in 2016. Sen. Claire McCaskill and other red state Democrats are usually pro-gun rights, bucking the Democratic Party’s anti-gun orthodoxy.

Is it all a lure, a trap? To use fishing and hunting terms, some suggest that one of the six North Carolina constitutional amendments on the ballot this fall, the “Right to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife,” is simply meant to reel in a certain voting demographic, while supporters of the amendment say it’s needed to protect a vital piece of mountain heritage.

When he signed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act seven months ago, Gov. Rick Scott said, "We have a lot of work ahead of us in order to enact these reforms and make our schools safer. This is a time for all of us to come together, roll up our sleeves and get it done." That is the Rick Scott his campaign wants voters to see as the governor runs against Sen. Bill Nelson.
