Chris Buskirk asks a key question that exposes the media's total manipulation of the news: "Why Are Fake Bombs Sent to Democrats More Shocking Than Real Ricin Packages to Republicans?" I would wager that 98% of the public doesn't even know that packages far more deadly than the ineffective bomb-resembling packages allegedly mailed by Cesar Sayoc were mailed to the president and his allies and staff.

One big problem gun-ban activists struggle with is that sometimes they mess up and tell the truth about their goals, even during the election season. As an example, take a recent campaign event for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, held in Amarillo, Texas. As background, NRA-PVF A-rated Cruz is facing an F-rated challenger in Democrat Beto O’Rourke. At the Amarillo event, a pompous, loud-mouthed O’Rourke supporter infiltrated the crowd and loudly argued with Cruz on several points—one of which was gun ownership.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has released its 2018 Midterm Election Scorecard on members of Congress and it doesn’t take long to figure out that for Republicans, it’s mainly good but for Democrats it is a whole lot of bad news.

For example, Washington state’s two U.S. Senators, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, both eke out a 7.14% rating out of a possible 100%, same as New York’s perennial anti-gun Sen. Charles Schumer. There are a lot of Democrats with the same minimal rating, or flat zeros, the rating earned by Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California. Cantwell is being challenged for re-election this fall by former news anchor and prominent Republican Susan Hutchison.

Moms Demand Action founder and gun control activist Shannon Watts wasted absolutely no time calling for stricter gun control laws. The total number of injuries and casualties were still unknown when Watts took to Twitter to criticize the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Fortunes seem to rise and fall on Twitter with alarming regularity. But the platform may not be an equal opportunity soapbox, with some opinions reportedly getting more exposure than others and some speakers seemingly operating with greater impunity. That’s why it was refreshing this week to see the people of Waterville, Me. stand behind their Republican mayor, Nick Isgro, after an effort was launched to recall him from office. Mayor Isgro’s supposed offense? Calling gun control activist David Hogg to task in a tweet.

I think that’s it. I came from a very, very lower class, not even lower middle, it was lower class humble beginnings in Chicago in the city. It was tough. I remember a day where my mom, I couldn’t have been more than seven or eight years old, we went to a place called Valueville in Chicago, which is like a little mini department store, kind of Kmart before Kmart. She’s like, “Let’s go get some sneakers.” I went and I got Pro-Keds.

It came as a bit of a surprise to me when the annual state pheasant count showed positive gains. According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources road survey released in September, the pheasant tallies indicated an increase of 19 percent over last year.

A woman shot and killed her ex-boyfriend in a case of self-defense at a bar in northeast Las Vegas early Saturday morning. Las Vegas Metropolitan police Homicide Lt. GCA ’68: A Half-Century of Gun Control Coincides with Infamous Date

TIME magazine is noting that this week marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Gun Control Act of 1968, a bizarre coincidence of history because today marks the 137th anniversary of a fatal shootout in Tombstone, Arizona Territory that many suggest was ignited by enforcement of a gun control ordinance.

The famed “Gunfight at the OK Corral” occurred Oct. 26, 1881. That the battle didn’t really happen in the corral, but in an empty lot next to a photography studio, has been overwhelmed by a romanticized history of the confrontation between the Earp brothers—Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan—and their friend, John H. “Doc” Holliday, and a group of cowboys including Frank and Tom McLaury, Ike and Billy Clanton and Billy Claiborne.

Never mind those daybreak tee times and early morning workout drills. If you think like most deer hunters, nothing soothes the soul like a peaceful date with a tall tower blind on a crisp November morning. What gets the blood pumping is watching and waiting patiently as the first light of dawn falls on opening day of another Texas whitetail season. The experience can be almost therapeutic for some, regardless if a deer shows up or not. Wild as it can be, nature's chapel is a sacred place that has a magical way of bringing life's troubles in check.

More than 10,000 pheasants will be released in Utah. If you head afield for pheasants this fall, you’ll likely find fewer wild birds. The number of pheasants released by the Division of Wildlife Resources hasn’t taken a dip, though: more than 10,000 birds will be released. The 61 pheasant-release sites include a new site near Heber City and six new sites near Utah Lake.

Firearm season for deer hunting opened on a cold Saturday, the start of what state wildlife experts predict could be even better than last year. Maine hunters wasted no time putting their permits to use. Trevor Berry of Farmingdale and his grandfather Charles Berry of West Gardiner found success Saturday morning, with the elder Berry killing a doe in Bowdoinham with a .270-caliber rifle.

Douglas County voters are being asked this November to approve or reject a countywide Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance. They’re not alone. Similar SAPO proposals are on the ballot in nine other counties this November — Baker, Columbia, Jackson, Klamath, Lake, Lincoln, Linn, Umatilla and Union. Four counties have previously passed similar ordinances, including Coos, Curry, Wallowa and Wheeler.

These days the cynical adage “if it bleeds, it leads” seems as applicable to the news media as ever. This is all the more reason that Washington Post advice columnist Carolyn Hax should be applauded for a recent piece where she sought to quell her readers’ out-sized fears about school shootings. Titled, “Apply the empirical method to your school-shooting anxieties,” Hax urged her readers to take a moment to look at the facts about school shootings before succumbing to fear.

It's not just the Parkland student survivors who are making their voices heard ahead of the midterms to protest gun control measures — it's the parents of those killed, too. Manuel Oliver, a Parkland father, printed a 3D sculpture of his son to protest 3D-printed guns potentially becoming legal and he put the sculpture in Times Square.

The debate about gun violence in America has fallen into a depressingly familiar routine. After every horrendous mass shooting, like the recent one at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, or weekend spree of violence in Chicago, the media commences a few days of wall-to-wall coverage. Large numbers of Americans demand changes in gun laws. Experts debate various reforms on TV. When no changes are forthcoming, attention lags until the next mass shooting. Rinse and repeat.

A new draft bill, which states that self-defence and the protection of property or another person are not valid reasons to own a gun, has left South African gun-owners fuming. If formalised, the bill could make it almost impossible for South Africans to own a gun. Dianne Kohler Barnard, DA member of the parliamentary police portfolio committee, described the proposed bill as draconian.

Gun owners in Florida have a choice to make on Election Day, one that will determine who will spend the next several years in the governor’s mansion. And the choice is one of the easiest they’ve faced. Ron DeSantis, who received an “A” rating from NRA-PVF, faces perhaps the most anti-gun candidate ever in F-rated Democrat Andrew Gillum.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is one of the more benign trivial pursuits resulting from America's fixation with celebrities,” I wrote for Guns & Ammo back in 2002. “Parodying the play ‘Six Degrees of Separation,' the game gives players up to six steps to connect the actor to any other actor via movies they have appeared in.
