Anyone who possesses a handgun, or any functional firearm, should be familiar with its operation and, ideally, proficient in its use. Few gun owners would object to that, and few would argue the responsibility to obtain understanding and proficiency of use rests with the individual, not the “nanny state” to require it.

Judging by the popularity of the rounds in the US today, the 5.56 doesn't seem to have many worthy competitors. However, some believe the 5.7mm is a worthy opponent despite these cartridges being created for different purposes.

A Girl & A Gun welcomed 12 women who traveled to Grand Junction, CO, for the inaugural Sniper School event. Comprising riflecraft and fieldcraft instruction blocks, AG & AG Sniper School utilized several areas of the Cameo Shooting and Education Complex that served as the perfect backdrop for learning internal and external ballistics, wind, mirage, concealment, movement, angles, and more. Sniper/spotter teams engaged targets up to and beyond 2,000 yards in the mountainous desert terrain.

Manipulated Public Opinion Polling Should Not Drive Public Policy on Guns

A recent study by the Crime Prevention Research Center underscored how easily public opinion polling can be used to distort, rather than illuminate, peoples’ true feelings on gun control. Policy-makers should take note. Sound policy requires a thoughtful and sophisticated understanding of facts and evidence, not just the shifting whims of public perception. Emotionalism, on the other hand, is the way anti-gun extremists would like to run our government. Gun ban advocates constantly point to survey results they help manufacture – usually in the wake of some highly-charged incident, before all the facts are known – as justification for imposing draconian restrictions on our Second Amendment rights.

NSSF Statment on Court's Dismissal of Mexico's Lawsuit Against US Firearm Industry

NSSF is pleased the court dismissed Mexico’s misguided and baseless lawsuit against members of the firearm industry that sought to blame them for Mexico’s unwillingness and inability to bring Mexican drug cartels to justice in Mexican courtrooms. The court correctly dismissed the case by properly applying the bipartisan Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) that bars lawsuits against firearm manufacturers and sellers for the criminal misuse by remote third parties, here Mexican cartels, of lawfully sold firearms. Like the court, we sympathize with the plight of the Mexican people and the criminal violence involving illegal firearms they have endured.

If there were ever two handgun cartridges that could be classified as ubiquitously American, then it would be the 45 Long Colt and the 45 Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP). With a combined service life of over two centuries, both have served as the sidearm cartridge for the U.S. Army and are still used in various applications today in civilian circles.

Twenty-eight Senate Republicans are zeroing in on Amalgamated Bank over credit card companies’ September 2022 decisions to recategorize gun sales in a way that allows them to be flagged. On September 11, Breitbart News reported that Visa caved to Democrat pressure and agreed to give firearm sales a standalone merchant code. New York Democrats wanted the code for the purpose of flagging purchases they consider suspicious.

As the 30-year-old woman attacked, the victim, who was armed, drew her concealed pistol and fired a single round at her assailant. The round struck the assailant in the leg, ending the assault.

Fellow NRA members, this month I’m sending an important message to everyone who cherishes our way of life—vote. Once again, our right to bear arms, enshrined in the Second Amendment, is being challenged by those who know little or nothing about firearms or, worse, simply want to trample on the Constitution and everything that it stands for. Training programs, informal competitions, sanctioned matches, collecting historical pieces and even being able to visit a public range will become distant memories without the right elected officials in office.

From Canada last week came a heartwarming story of how certain Canadian jurisdictions are responding to the central government’s plea to help it implement its draconian and legally-dubious firearms confiscation scheme. Tyler Shandro, the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General for the Conservative government in the Canadian Province of Alberta, recently tweeted a copy of an August 19 letter from Marco Mendicino, the latest federal minister responsible for implementing Prime Minister Trudeau’s gun ban and confiscation (“buyback”).

Complete with a factory-installed adjustable TriggerTech trigger, a 26-inch heavy-contour (.850-inch at the muzzle) stainless steel barrel with 5R rifling, and a folding adjustable stock, the new Ruger Custom Shop variant of the company's Precision Rifle platform checks a lot of boxes.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. — Noah Webster in "An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution," 1787, in Paul Ford, ed., Pamphlets on the Constitution of the United States, at p. 56 (New York, 1888).
