An Illinois police officer whose shooting death in September led to a massive manhunt committed suicide due to personal and professional pressures, investigators announced during a Wednesday morning news conference.

Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph "Joe" Gliniewicz was stealing and laundering money from the Fox Lake Police Explorer's program and committed suicide due to the "personal stress from scrutiny of his management," Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Commander George Filenko said.

"Gliniewicz's death was a carefully staged suicide," said Filenko, who added that the officer had "significant experience staging mock crime scenes."

The only way to "sell" gun control is through lies. These are the most common lies told, and the facts that refute them. In the Washington Times.

"Simply put, the Great Gun Control Con is running full tilt, aided by a compliant, if not complicit, media shilling a string of lies designed to reshape public knowledge on crime and guns."

The billionaire has publicly committed himself to spending millions of dollars to promote gun control — but he’s not gotten the “bang for his buck” that he desired.

More than a year ago, Edwards was thrust into foster care. And, because he is a ward of the state, Edwards is considered a minor, which is preventing him from buying a gun.

“Under the juvenile code he's still a minor, but under any other code he'd be considered an adult,” said Adam S. Hensley, Edwards’ attorney.

...

Edwards says he has no criminal history, can meet any federal requirements, and will take any safety classes necessary. But when he asked a judge if he could have a gun he was told no. That’s when Edwards got an attorney.

Martin O’Malley is anchoring this week’s campaign swing through New Hampshire on gun control.

Good luck with that.

The former Democratic governor of Maryland is in a bidding war with Hillary Clinton to see who can propose the most sweeping restrictions on gun ownership and possession. O’Malley outlined his plan during a lengthy interview with the Union Leader on Tuesday.

O’Malley would ban “combat assault weapons,” a meaningless term by which liberals mean “scary looking guns.” He would require fingerprints for all gun purchases, presumably through a federal database. He would prohibit anyone under age 21 from possessing a handgun, taking away the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding adults for no reason.

Coos County voters approved Measure 6-151 Tuesday. The initiative was designed to challenge gun control laws in Oregon.

The "Second Amendment Ordinance" prohibits the use of county funds to enforce a state background-check mandate that lawmakers passed earlier this year. The measure also allows the county sheriff to decide whether any new state or federal gun laws violate the U.S. Constitution.

Despite the spectacular failure of long-time allies Terry McAuliffe and Michael Bloomberg to make gun control a winning issue in Virginia last night, Hillary Clinton has apparently made the decision to make undermining a core human and Constitutional right the core focus of her campaign:

Virginia — Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) desperately wanted to flip control the Virginia state Senate. He needed to win only one seat to gain control (with the lieutenant governor breaking tie votes). But Republicans held on to their 21-to-19 majority.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg wanted to show what a full-fledged attack on gun rights could do to Second Amendment conservatives. Bloomberg poured millions of dollars into key races, attempting to exploit the tragic shooting of two reporters earlier this year. He failed. Some commentators are calling [Tuesday’s] vote “a victory for the Second Amendment.”

But when asked by ThinkProgress during a book signing at a Costco in Naples for his thoughts on the controversial “Stand Your Ground” policy that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush signed into law, Carson seemed torn.

“I see positives and negatives,” he said. “We should be talking about how we preserve our Second Amendment rights but at the same time prevent unnecessary violence. That’s the right framework.”

When ThinkProgress pressed him to clarify, Carson said, after pausing to think, “Obviously I want people to stand their ground, but I don’t want to create vigilantism either. I probably come down somewhere in the middle on how to do it.”

For four Wednesdays in October, Exeter-area residents held early evening vigils at the Town Hall, communicating through signs, songs, petitions, and reviews of proposed legislation their deep commitment to changing the culture regarding gun ownership, gun use, and gun “rights”. As one of the participants in those vigils, I have come to some new understanding that the issue of guns is terribly complicated.

...

The key terms here are “militia” and “well-regulated. We the people are not the militia; we know what military forces are, and what their role is. And for protection from criminals and law-breakers, we rely on law enforcement (police). That’s what the Second Amendment is about.

America is obsessed with guns, and that fixation isn’t going away any time soon. The only reasonable and morally responsible thing to do is to address the issue as it presently exists.

All too often, TV viewers tune in to their favorite news anchor and learn of yet another shooting at a school, at a shopping mall or at a movie theater, and then go about their day. Political pundits and activists on both sides regurgitate facts and figures, but nothing ever gets done.

A favorite among gun control activists is citing the United Kingdom’s rigid gun laws and its relatively low gun violence reputation. For example, in 2011, there were 146 deaths by firearm in the United Kingdom and 32,351 in the United States.

“I am extremely happy of the verdict,” Davis told the Great Bend Tribune before leaving the courthouse Wednesday. “I couldn’t be happier. My life can move on.”

He is a firefighter and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, or AEMT, in Dodge City.

Davis said he pulled the weapon in self defense. He wanted to stop a fight involving three men against one, and he believed they would be coming for him next, he testified Tuesday. He also testified he was the designated driver and did not consume any alcohol that night, and that the gun happened to be unloaded, although he pretended it was not.

Rep. Neil Combee (R-Polk City) says his measure removes 10-20-Life as a penalty for aggravated assault cases, such as threatening a person with a gun.

“Although it’s very few cases, in recent years, people have been convicted of crimes such as aggravated assault for threatening to use force and have been sentenced to mandatory minimum sentences of 20 years in prison. These cases, I believe, fell out of the legislative intent behind this law. It has the support of the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association, Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association,” said Combee, speakinig before the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee Wednesday.

The Left Can’t Pass Any “Common-Sense” Gun-Control Laws Because They Aren’t Proposing Any

The rallying cry for gun controllers these days is, “We need to pass ‘commonsense gun safety laws,’ like a universal background check.”

This new universal catch phrase, approved by the left wing and their politicians who have lined up to say it without variation, don’t understand the underlying problem.

So-called commonsense (now one word) “gun safety” (must squeeze in safety) laws are nothing of the sort. All five politicians at the first democratic presidential non-debate said this phrase. You will not hear the term “gun-control laws” from them any longer, unless they slip up. Everyone now understands that “gun control” means gun bans.

A potentially heated discussion about making the Kalona Public Library a weapons free zone failed to materialize Monday night.

With several gun rights activists at the meeting, Mayor Ken Herington defused any possibility of a heated discussion by starting the meeting off by stating that the Library Board had withdrawn its request to have the Library be declared a weapons free zone. Herington explained that the city had asked the Library Board members to be present at the council meeting to be involved in the discussion. He said it did not work out for the Library Board members to be present and therefore withdrew its request.

Kerner’s opposition to campus carry was echoed by Reps. Victor Torres (D-Orlando), John Cortes (D-Kissimmee), and Clovis Watson (D-Alachua).

The Washington Post yesterday seemed to acknowledge that pushing gun control — at least in two Virginia races decided Tuesday that left Democrats supported by Gov. Terry McAuliffe — “may have backfired by producing a pro-Republican backlash,” something that should sound an alarm for the Hillary Clinton campaign.

This acknowledgement came simultaneously to a report in the Washington Free Beacon that, for the sixth month in a row, October showed a record number of FBI background checks. That translates to increased gun sales, a fact which gun rights advocate Alan Gottlieb used to remind people that “Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are the best gun salespeople on the planet.”
