"Funny, isn't it, how 'progressives' represent themselves as caring about the people on the lower-end of the economic spectrum, yet are the biggest cheerleaders the 'One Percent' could hope for when it comes to the true egalitarian power sharing that an armed citizenry provides. And it’s curious, how an ideology that once extolled the virtues of 'peasants' and 'workers,' at least until power was secured, has produced effete snobs who attack the worth and question the refinement of other human beings who do not share their infatuation with degenerate totalitarianism."

A Denver police officer accidentally fired his gun while trying to turn on a flashlight mounted on his weapon in March, the department's third flashlight-related discharge in two years, records show.
Denver officials last month suspended Officer Brian Mudloff for 18 days without pay for careless handling of his firearm in connection with the March 16 discharge. The Denver Post obtained Mudloff's discipline order this week through an open-records request.
Nobody was seriously injured, but the bullet went through a car's windshield and through the front passenger seat, shattering a rear side window.
Inside the car were the driver, a juvenile passenger, an infant and a theft suspect.

Washington’s new background check requirement for all firearm sales and transfers went into effect on Thursday, and the group behind the new law announced its goals for the next legislative session.

Increased access to mental health services, holding adults responsible for keeping guns away from children and protective orders for at-risk people should be added to background checks for private gun sales to help reduce gun violence in Washington, members of the coalition that backed Initiative 594 said during a news conference at Plymouth Church.

In a news conference covered by the Associated Press Thursday at Plymouth Church in Seattle, leaders for the Center for Gun Responsibility announced a wish list of “effective and meaningful” gun control measures they intend to push in the upcoming legislative session. The group was among those who fought for the controversial expanded background check initiative passed by Evergreen State voters in November. That effort was backed largely by a giant war chest filled with cash from Bloomberg-funded national gun control organs.

It’s time for South Carolina lawmakers to get serious about curbing domestic violence in South Carolina and bar abusers from owning guns, the Senate Judiciary chairman said Friday.

A weapons ban is a key provision of Larry Martin’s bill that seeks to reduce the state’s dismal death statistics. South Carolina has long ranked among the nation’s worst in violence against women. Legislators have studied the issue for the past decade, as they repeatedly passed laws calling for further study. In August, the House created a new panel to come up with a proposal for 2015.

One of the primary purposes of the second amendment is the ability to form militias to enforce public order.

The formation of informal militias during times of disorder, such as during natural disasters and riots is a completely natural and expected act.

Productive people have invested their lives in their property; when that property and their lives are threatened, neighbors band together to protect themselves and each other.

A first-degree murder charge against Ralph Barker of Granite Falls has been dismissed. The announcement from District Attorney Jay Gaither’s office came three days before Barker’s trial was scheduled to begin. Barker said he killed his neighbor, Danny Bowman, in self-defense.

According to Police, Barker shot Bowman on Bowman’s property while the victim was inside his own pickup truck, still wearing his seatbelt. The incident occurred in February 2013.

The District Attorney found "the victim’s prior history included crimes of violence," citing several previous arrests. Gaither said, "the defendant was in reasonable fear of deadly force."

The duty to retreat, if a safe retreat is available, before using deadly force in self-defense is sometimes called the duty to “retreat to the wall.” I had always thought this originated as a metaphor — you have to retreat until safe retreat is no longer possible — but it turns out that the phrase is generally traced back to a 1329/30 case that had an actual wall. Here’s the English translation, from 97 Selden Society 164 (some emphasis and some paragraph breaks added):

The Second Amendment Foundation went proactive today, launching a national media blitz and petition effort to roadblock a possible end run around the U.S. Senate by President Barack Obama to implement the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb threatened legal action “if the president tries to circumvent the U.S. Senate and the will of the American people.” Secretary of State John Kerry signed the ATT more than a year ago, but senators on both sides of the aisle quickly advised the White House that the treaty – which must be ratified by the Senate – would be dead on arrival.

Should Texas A&M students be allowed to carry guns on campus?

That's the question sparking a lot of debate on the A&M Campus.

This week, A&M's Student Senate passed the Personal Protection Act that would allow students with concealed carry permits to carry firearms on campus if given the OK by University Administrators.

Florida State students know all too well what its like to have a gunman open fire on campus. Three students were wounded before a former student was killed in a shootout with police.

Can that be right? Is it really proper to reduce a person’s self-defense rights simply because he or she — or the group for which he or she is acting — has a “reputation for violence”?

That question was recently before the high court as well as the Legislature earlier this year. So, could that come back into play again next legislative session?

The question of whether felons should be allowed to own firearms is being addressed in a case on the Missouri Supreme Court docket.

It plans to take up the case Tuesday.

Cases involving not just constitutional rights, but the right to bear arms, always carry a lot of weight.

This particular case also involves rights or the limited rights of convicted felons.

Starting Tuesday, the Missouri Supreme Court will begin hearing the case State of Missouri v. Marcus Merritt, out of St. Louis.

The newest modern derringers are now essentially the same caliber as Henry Deringer’s first pocket pistol of 1852. Back then, the muzzleloading single-shot Philadelphia Deringer used 15 to 25 grains of black powder to drive a .41 caliber round ball. Since those days, derringers have been chambered for many handgun cartridges, but only fairly recently have they been made to shoot the .410 shotshell.
