A Kewanee man died of a gunshot wound after he reportedly kicked in the door of a home Sunday afternoon. Wyatt J. Scott, 41, died from a single gunshot wound, according to a news release from the Henry-Mercer Investigative Task Force.

Prosecutors in Puerto Rico have smashed a ring of current and former U.S. Transportation Security Administration workers that allegedly smuggled 20 tons of cocaine worth as much as $100 million into the U.S. over more than a decade.

A dozen members of the alleged ring, including TSA workers and airport employees, were indicted Feb. 8 in the District of Puerto Rico on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, U.S. Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez announced. Authorities said the federal employees used their positions as TSA baggage screeners to wave massive amounts of coke through security.

Police arrested the 21-year-old man injured in the January 31, 2017 shooting on Wyoming Avenue, along with his suspected accomplice, in what investigators believe was a home-invasion. Marcelo Ortiz Bejarano, of the 6500 block of Puffin Street, is charged with one count each of Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm, Aggravated Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Burglary.

A measure challenging gun regulations is popping up around the state. Since 2015, four counties have passed a measure known as the Second Amendment Preservation ordinance, and commissioners in Malheur, Union and Lake counties have heard the same measure in the past few weeks. Federal authorities have rounded up eight men they say are part of a group that was stealing guns from Northern California stores and selling them in the Bay Area. Members of the group would advertise the guns on social media sites, like Instagram, and tended to meet up in large East Bay store parking lots to make the deals. They were caught after making deals with a confidential informant and an undercover FBI agent, according to a federal indictment that was unsealed over the weekend.

Gunmaker Sig Sauer filed a 5-count lawsuit against a French company that makes Airsoft guns claiming patent infringement and a failure to pay royalties for use of Sig's name and logo. The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court of New Hampshire against Cybergun, which on Friday, Feb. 10 had 15 products on its website with Sig brands, but are CO2-powered BB guns. The suit alleges an agreement was executed in 2014 that authorized Cybergun to use Sig's trademarks in exchange for quarterly royalty payments from Cybergun's net sales.

A measure that would reduce the penalty for people who briefly display a firearm in public and make it a non-criminal offense has been filed in the House. The proposal (HB 779), filed Friday by Rep. Neil Combee, R-Polk City, is identical to a bill (SB 646) filed by Senate Judiciary Chairman Greg Steube, R-Sarasota.
