The scene was an all-too-familiar one on the streets of America’s cities: a black suspect on the ground, roughed up by white police officers as an angry crowd looked on.
But Yellow Springs is a tiny, predominantly white village, and the arrest at the annual New Year’s street celebration was an awakening to many who live here.
Dozens of residents criticized the police force on Facebook, accusing officers of carrying an “us versus them” attitude. Hundreds packed a gym for a special Village Council meeting to denounce the episode for, among other things, the psychological damage it had on their children. When the police chief, unused to such fury, offered his resignation, the audience cheered. |

There will be war in the streets of America. Things have been engineered that way.
The scenarios are many, the issues are complex. The current anger from the left, who are violently protesting against President Trump, is just one aspect of it.
But the Pentagon and the U.S. national security structure is increasingly looking towards the shifting demographics around the globe – people have moved from rural areas, and shifted into cities. Where ever conflict stirs, there will be a need for military and SWAT response to the call. Entire cities will be locked down; door to door sweeps will often have violent ends.
Baghdad could be brought home to the streets of America, and the military already knows it.

Marcus Weldon said defending his life cost him thousands of dollars, his reputation and a few relationships.
The Southfield resident was dressed as Santa Claus on Dec. 21, 2014, when he and a female coworker, also clad in a Santa costume, left a holiday work function and drove to a downtown Detroit gas station. Weldon said two men began harassing her and, when he tried to intervene, one retrieved a gun from his car.
Weldon, 28, who has a license to carry a concealed pistol, pulled out his .40 caliber semiautomatic and fired four shots, wounding both men. He was arrested, charged and tried; a jury in June found him not guilty.

More than 4,200 people applied for a concealed gun permit in Deschutes County last year—many of them women. One local woman is on a mission to ensure they're properly prepared.

That's the opening statement on the website run by Sharon Preston, a local woman who says she's trained about 4,000 women in how to handle a firearm. About 75 percent of her focus is introducing them to the sport of shooting. The other 25 percent is focused on self-defense. Many women seek her training to qualify for a concealed carry permit. |

Concealed pistol permit holders could carry firearms in the state Capitol under a proposal advanced Wednesday in the House of Representatives.
On a 46-20 vote, legislators approved House Bill 1156, which would let law enforcement officers and enhanced concealed pistol permit holders to legally possess a firearm in the Capitol building.
The state Supreme Court chambers would be excluded and anyone who wanted to carry would need to register with Capitol security 24 hours beforehand. |

Demonstrations on violent attacks on women are sterilized and do not represent the realities of what actually happens. Instructors are flat out lying to the person you love most and giving them a false sense of confidence that may lead to an unfavorable outcome. Why is this happening?? If Steube’s measure passes in Florida — where there are 1.6 million people with a permit to carry concealed weapons — the state’s image could be more like the Old West than the friendly, appealing image of tourism postcards.
But Steube’s logic sits on quicksand, bucking the opinion of gun-safety advocates. According to some recent studies, the cases in which armed civilians have stopped a mass shooting are no more than 1.6 percent in the past 30 years. Let’s be clear: Such a measure wouldn’t solve our gun violence problem. |

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has proposed more than quadrupling state pistol permit fees in his budget, a move that drew sharp criticism from the state's largest gun rights group.
The $70 fee paid to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection for a five-year permit renewal would rise to $300. New permit applicants would see their costs increase from $140 to $370.
"When you consider just six years ago a five-year renewal was only $35, in six years we've seen a near tenfold increase," said Scott Wilson, president of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League. |

Following the investigation, the case file for the fatal shooting was sent to the Rice County Attorney’s Office for review of charges. After review of the case, the county attorney decided not to file charges related to this incident, according to a news release.
The attorney’s office determined they could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the person responsible for the shooting was not acting self-defense. The person responsible in the shooting was identified as Phyllis Ann Hall, 75, of Northfield. |

This is exactly why I’m against a current bill heading to the Arkansas Senate that would allow employees at a public place of higher education to possess a firearm if they owned a concealed carry permit. Currently, while Arkansas law permits persons to carry a concealed firearm on a college campus, universities and colleges are allowed to opt out of that law and prohibit the carrying of any firearms by employees. |

Ironically, if it weren’t for the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 we would not have the Walther PPK/S, a moderately elongated version of the PPK (Polizei Pistole Kriminalmodell, “Police Pistol Detective Model”), introduced in 1931. With its compact design, the PPK was a trendsetter for today’s influx of double-action/single-action pocket pistols.
The PPK was a slightly smaller version of the Walther PP (Polizei Pistole, “Police Pistol”), which had a barrel length just under 4" and a magazine capacity of seven rounds. The PPK, by comparison, had a 31⁄3" barrel and a six-round magazine with a separate bottom finger rest to augment the shorter length. |

A host of bills aiming to expand Second Amendment rights were heard Wednesday by the House State, Veterans and Military Affairs committee.
Included were House bills 1036, which would remove the prohibition on carrying a concealed firearm on school campuses; 1037, which would allow business owners and employees to use deadly force on intruders; and 1097, which would repeal the limitations on magazine capacity in Colorado.
The hearing for H.B. 1036 lasted more than four hours before Democrats killed the bill on a party-line vote, 6-3. |

Amidst threat of a lawsuit from the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, the Ramsey Borough Council Wednesday held off on passing an ordinance that would prohibit firearms from being discharged at shooting ranges within the borough.
The council voted to table the ordinance until the next council meeting on Feb. 22.
“We are in the process of obtaining a national law firm to represent the borough pro-bono in the event of litigation since the New Jersey Second Amendment Society has threatened the borough with costly and protracted litigation if we move forward with the amendment,” Ramsey Mayor Deirdre Dillon told a packed meeting room. |

An East Tennessee lawmaker wants there to be an annual tax-free weekend geared toward gun owners.
The bill, filed by Rep. Dennis Powers, R-Jacksboro, would establish the "Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday" for the first weekend of September.
The tax holiday would cover firearms and ammunition. Guns covered by the tax discount would include shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers, BB guns, and Muzzleloaders, according to the bill's text. |

Most Missourians love their Second Amendment rights, and they love their guns, which explains why gun rights bills seem to flow out of the General Assembly with such ease.
Missouri has basically been a testing ground for gun rights legislation – one might even call the Show-Me State a safe haven for gun owners. Missouri’s Legislature passed a bill in 2016 making it legal for anyone aged 19 or older to carry a gun without any training and took away the required permit for concealed weapons. The General Assembly just a few years ago had even debated nullifying all federal gun laws. |

On Friday, February 10, the House Water and Land Committee will hear House Bill 1589, sponsored by Representative Ryan Yamane (D-37). This legislation would allow the use of sound suppressors while hunting in the state of Hawaii.
Currently, 40 states allow the use of suppressors while hunting. Sound suppressors attached to firearms (less accurately called "silencers") are an additional tool available to help protect hearing, increase accuracy and safety, and reduce noise complaints by surrounding residents. While suppressors do not eliminate the sound of a firearm, they do reduce the muzzle report of a firearm, reducing the risk hearing damage. |
