An opinion piece in the New York Times by columnist Gail Collins has ignited a discussion that includes some alarmingly false impressions about the Second Amendment, and some clear misunderstandings about the difference between rights and a privileges.
Collins indicates in responses to various readers she is not a fan of guns, but it is some of the reader responses to which Second Amendment activists should pay attention. They offer a view into the anti-gun mindset that can be both frustrating and amusing, as well as disappointing. In 2004, the Hornady Manufacturing Company introduced the .17 Hornady Mach 2 (.17 HM2) using a .22 LR case that had been extended and necked down. This cartridge should not be mistaken for the Hornady .17 HMR, which is based on the case of a .22 Magnum. The .17 HM2 is designed to take varmint at 100 yards or more, and performs the task admirably. It develops a similar amount of energy as the .22 LR in foot pounds, but it travels at a higher velocity – resulting in a flatter bullet trajectory. |

While speaking Sunday at CPAC 2021, the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre suggested leftist politicians “would rather kill the Second Amendment than save lives.” LaPierre referenced President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), suggesting “they’re using rising homicide statistics as political fodder, in their warped crusade against the Second Amendment.” |

The National Rifle Association on Jan. 13 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) that creates a framework for cooperation between the two organizations for recruiting, retaining and reactivating American sportswomen and men, and for promoting the conservation of wildlife and its habitat through the NRA’s hunter education and hunter outreach programs. Taking part in the signing event at NRA’s National Firearms Museum was USFWS Director Aurelia Skipwith, who joined with NRA officers including Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) Executive Director Jason Ouimet and David Keene, past president. |

To anti-Second Amendment extremists, anything that allows a law-abiding American citizen to exercise their Second Amendment rights is a “loophole.” Second Amendment supporters, though, often find people questioning this mindset – often because they don’t know the current laws, how little they are enforced, or what anti-Second Amendment extremists ultimately want to subject this country to.

New licenses are now available to purchase on the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency website. There are lots of different packages based on what you plan to do this year. Debra Haaland to become Secretary of the Interior. A Second Amendment rally was held in downtown Twin Falls Thursday night, and the people who organized and attended the event want the city leaders to do what some other Magic Valley cities have done in recent months, make Twin Falls a Second Amendment Sanctuary City. The rally was organized by Lanny Denton and Forrest Anderson, and at the event, the two men were collecting signatures for a petition that will be submitted to the city council Monday night that will request the city council to direct city staff to draft a resolution to make Twin Falls a Second Amendment Sanctuary City. Once drafted they want the city council to have a vote to adopt the resolution.
