In 1952, the .308 Winchester was released for the iconic Winchester Model 70 bolt action rifle. This rimless and bottleneck-style cartridge was based on the 7.62x51mm NATO, and was released to the public two years before NATO adopted the 7.62x51mm.

Former President Donald Trump reminded a fired-up audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference why he had the support of gun rights activists across the country when he said “Trumpism” includes defense of the Second Amendment.

“Trumpism means strong borders,” the former president said. “It means law enforcement. It means very strong protection for the Second Amendment.”

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) warns that gun control targeting the so-called “Charleston Loophole” could be before Congress for a vote as early as next week. The NSSF told Breitbart News the bill, the Enhanced Background Check Act of 2021, is sponsored by House Whip Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and “could be on the floor as early as next week, bypassing House Judiciary altogether.”

Today, the House Public Safety Subcommittee voted 2-1 to advance House Study Bill 254, which greatly improves self-defense in Iowa. The full House Public Safety Committee will hear HSB 254 tomorrow. Please contact committee members and ask them to SUPPORT HSB 254.

House Study Bill 254 allows a law-abiding adult to carry a concealed firearm, without first needing to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays.

The long-running saga of the court case involving California’s on-again, off-again magazine ban has taken another twist. Many America’s 1st Freedom readers likely remember that last August, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed in Duncan v. Becerra that the restriction on firearms magazines holding more than 10 rounds violated the Second Amendment.

Legislation to ease some gun restrictions and make Iowa the 19th state to adopt a permit-less constitutional carry approach drew cheers Monday from advocates as striking a blow for freedom, while critics called it an effort to unravel Iowa’s gun safety laws. House Study Bill 254, which cleared a House Public Safety subcommittee by a 2-1 vote, would eliminate the need for Iowans age 21 or older to obtain a government permit to acquire or carry a firearm.

Throughout history, several firearms have become inexorably linked to a single cartridge. Colt’s 1911 will always be associated with the .45 ACP. When you think of lever-actions, you think of the .30-30 Win. And, the AR-15 is forever tethered to the .223 Rem./5.56 NATO. Of course, that isn’t exactly correct, is it? Today, you can get 1911s and lever guns chambered for a variety of cartridges. The same holds true for the AR-15. But, is there a “best cartridge” for what has become known as the modern sporting rifle (MSR)? The answer is complicated.

When the Framers put the Bill of Rights into place, they did so assuming that Americans were a fundamentally moral people. John Adams stated that explicitly, saying, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” One element of this assumption was that the people could be trusted with firearms. Now, though, those in charge of the government presumptively assess Americans as immoral and untrustworthy.

It’s widely understood that the current occupants of the White House, the Biden-Harris Administration, have positioned themselves as the most anti-gun team this country has ever seen on Pennsylvania Avenue. Attacks on our right to keep and bear arms don’t just take the form of gun bans or universal background checks. A man defended himself at a gas station in Loris, S.C., from an armed assailant on the afternoon of Feb. 11, 2021. The man was involved in a road-rage incident while driving, and the other truck followed him to a gas station. Around 5:30 p.m. that Thursday, the man parked his truck at a pump, while the other truck pulled in behind. The driver of the other truck got out with a knife in hand and approached the driver-side door of the man's truck. The attacking driver then opened the door of the truck with the man still inside.
