"'It is our intention to assist in restoring integrity, accountability and responsibility of ATF management and employee confidence in ATF and Main Justice,' Special Agent Vince Cefalu and a coalition of current and retired agency employees wrote in an initiative proposal sent—at his own expense—to the [ATF's] Acting Director, to the Attorney General and to the entire Senate Judiciary Committee, before Fast and Furious 'gunwalking' allegations became widely known, and before the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. This is one of the documents Cefalu provided to U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., reported yesterday by Gun Rights Examiner." ...

"MikeB302000 has fingered me as a gun-rights fanatic. I presume this is because I believe that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. I presume this is because I oppose 'reasonable' measures such as background checks on all gun sales. I presume this is because I don't think a person ought to have to take a class or fill out paperwork for the state to exercise their right to self defense. I presume this is because I believe individuals should have the right to defend themselves against both criminals and the state . . ." ...

"Every year the [NSSF] hosts the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show) for industry representatives, it is the world's largest trade show and this year the NSSF has issued a warning to its exhibitors regarding trade show directory scams."

"NSSF has released a statement warning exhibitors against releasing information to trade show directories. The scams in question ask companies to update their information, as if it is already existing, but by signing and returning the solicitation form companies are inadvertently agreeing to a three-year, irrevocable agreement that would not only require them to pay a significant amount of money with no foreseeable benefits, but also automatically renews." ...

"I once read somewhere that no one finds their perfect gun right away. Inevitably we end up trying new ones ... I thought I was done with this disease; I thought the days of my wife rolling her eyes over my long-winded explanations of why gun A should be traded for gun B were a thing of the past. If you can’t tell by now, I was wrong. The catalyst happened a few weeks ago when I taught a concealed weapons class where one of the students was utilizing a new SIG-Sauer P220. Upon taking the weapon from him to explain how the decocker worked, something clicked in my mind. At the range he let me shoot a magazine through it and I knew I was in serious trouble. Two weeks later I became a first-time SIG owner . . ." ...

"I’m on vacation. Obviously. Flying down to West Palm via Washington, D.C. I met a prominent conservative TV personality who shall remain nameless. He mentioned Emily Miller’s Washington Times series on exercising her Second Amendment rights in the nation’s capital. 'Registering guns is crazy,' he said, dissing and dismissing the registration requirements stipulated by the the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975. 'None of my guns are registered.' My reply to the conservative curmudgeon was straight to the point: 'You shouldn’t say that to anyone.' ..." ...

"Whenever a newbie asks me what firearm they should buy for home protection I respond with a simple question: do you have a burglar alarm? I find it incredible that someone, anyone is willing to go to all the trouble and expense of acquiring, mastering and (potentially) deploying deadly force without first considering the option of scaring the bad guy or guys away. And many of the people who do have a burglar alarm don’t use it. The internal sensors ring false a few times ... so they just forget about the whole thing. And most of the people with alarms don’t have panic buttons. Or use the system during the day. Anyway, it’s not all about deterrence. ... It’s also about creating an early warning system. "Korth handguns, like the semi-automatic 9mm and Korth Combat revolver, are made with the utmost quality and care. That’s not promotional talk, that’s the truth. However, with such high quality craftsmanship comes a price. We’re not just talking monetary value, we’re talking about fear of breaking it."

Turning my reloading bench into a miniature manufacturing facility where I spend endless hours performing the repetitive tasks needed to churn out hundreds of cartridges or shotshells strikes me more as a kind of punishment than as a relaxing hobby. "Those of you who have been around these parts for a while may remember a little review I did not too long ago about the Swarovski BRT 1-6x scope. Swarovski makes what many consider to be 'THE' 3-gun scope, and we had the temerity to disagree. Needless to say, Swarovski was none too pleased, and they've only just started talking to us again. After that review, I started angling for Trijicon to send me their 1x+ variable scope, the direct competition to the Swarovski, to see if at 1/3 the price it was 1/3 as good. It took a couple of months but the scope finally arrived on my doorstep this week, and thanks to a range trip with Tyler (and a subsequent range trip for some fine tuning) I was able to put it through its paces . . ." ...

A recent dispatch from Reuters (we’re not really sure if this is a news report or and op ed piece) highlights what TTAG and other Fast and Furious watchers have been saying for a long time now. Whatever the ostensible motivations for F&F were, making a significant dent in the number of guns running south wasn’t one of them. Why? Because retail-sourced guns via straw purchasers is a tiny fraction of the southbound firepower. The vast majority of the guns that arm the cartels are purchased legally by the Mexican military . . ." ...
