Lawmakers in Olympia, Washington are moving a bill to prohibit open carry of firearms “and other weapons” on the Capitol campus and near permitted public demonstrations anywhere in the state.

The measure would make failure to safely secure a weapon a misdemeanor. It would only apply in situations where a child might be able to gain access to the gun, or if someone living in the home is ineligible to own firearms.

Proposed by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, House Bill 2058 seeks to recognize all out-of-state concealed carry permits, and allow those who have been licensed to carry a firearm for self-defense, to do so lawfully in Kansas. This legislation recognizes that visitors to Kansas should not be left defenseless simply by crossing a state line. Further, HB 2058 authorizes the attorney general to issue an alternative license to carry a concealed handgun to qualified applicants during a declared state of disaster emergency.

According to reports from Capitol Hill, the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives plans to vote on two gun control bills as early as next week. The first bill, so-called “universal” background check legislation, would criminalize the private transfer of firearms. The second bill, sometimes inaccurately described as legislation to close the “Charleston loophole,” would undermine the Second Amendment right by permitting the federal government to delay a firearm transfer indefinitely without proof that the transferee is prohibited from possessing firearms.

As President Joe Biden (D) has never seen a gun-control bill he doesn’t like, the mainstream media has been salivating over the prospects; though, to name one outlet, Politico’s recent reporting on the topic makes them sound so very disappointed that the filibuster rule in the U.S. Senate will make passing gun-control bills difficult, as they would need to achieve a 60-vote majority to end a filibuster.

I’m sitting in a tripod stand in a copse of live oaks aptly named Pig Ridge. It’s a fine-looking spot for swine, with a dry creek bed to the rear, and a tangle of hostile Texas brush ahead. An hour before dark, the black forms of two boars—perhaps 100 pounds apiece—flash through the thicket. We’ve scattered a gallon-size Ziploc bag’s worth of corn on the ground within bow range, and after some positioning and grunting about, one of the hogs makes the fatal mistake of quartering slightly away from me. I settle my 20-yard pin and let fly, and that pig dies within sight.

Designed by an American, made in America, and created for the United States Armed Forces – nothing encompasses the American spirit of ammunition like the .45 Auto caliber and the gun it was made for. Known as the .45 ACP, this cartridge is the all-American bullet. And over 100 years after its debut, it’s still used by both law enforcement and civilians, and remains a favorite across the U.S.

The string of monthly record-high gun numbers slowed in February as gun shops increasingly had empty cases and gun buyers fought bad winter weather. While the second month of the year saw a significant increase in firearm background checks when compared to the data from February 2020, last month was "only" the third-highest February on record rather than setting a new bar.
