I missed these details at first. A news crew was the victim of a recent robbery attempt. This was a video crew from the local CBS affiliate in San Francisco. The crew was protected by an armed guard. This is interesting because CBS condemned ordinary citizens for being armed. The network said it is unwise for you or me to have a gun to protect our family while CBS protected their camera equipment with armed guards.

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.

The state House debated House Bill 1177 for 10 hours before the majority Democrats passed it on a voice vote late Friday evening. It will likely be back for final consideration and a final vote on Monday.

As it happens, the Brady Campaign has decided to undergo another rebranding effort and will now go by simply “Brady.” For those counting, this is the fourth different name for the outmoded handgun prohibition organization.

In light of recent mass shootings, gun control has become the center of attention in American politics. While many argue that guns are an American freedom and privilege, in the wrong hands they can be fatal. Ever since Parkland, the movement to change gun laws has caught the attention of students across the nation. New Mexican teens have become aware of our state’s lenient background check laws and gun show loophole that allows abusers to purchase a gun from a private seller, no questions asked.

House Democrats are crowing about their passage Wednesday of H.R. 8, the so-called “Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019,” but they may soon be eating crow because the White House has already stated that if the measure reaches the president’s desk, his advisors will recommend a veto.

It’s really all about playing to their far-left base, in preparation for the 2020 elections so Democrats can campaign on the argument that Republicans will have “blocked common-sense gun safety legislation.”

If readers haven’t been following the pro-freedom news lately, it’s easy to miss that a number of states have passed a unique, welcome, necessary reform: constitutional carry. One gun rights lobbyist in Iowa announced that this was a hot issue this year, even though an Iowa legislative committee had stalled on its passage. Constitutional carry is carrying a lot of weight this year. Yet still the stigma remains that it’s dangerous, foolish to allow law-abiding citizens to carry a firearm, whether open or concealed, and without having to obtain a permit.

A uniquely California program investigated a record number of people who no longer are allowed to own firearms, yet the underlying backlog remains nearly the same as a year ago, state Attorney General Xavier Becerra said Friday. He blamed an increase in gun possessions and too few special agents, despite an infusion of $24 million in recent years, and said his office may always have a problem clearing cases unless agents get raises that bring their salaries more in line with other law enforcement agencies.
