After several community meetings, a San Jose city commission has decided to endorse use of a police drone. The pilot project still needs approval from the city council, but this marks an important step for police in getting the public to buy in.
San Jose’s Neighborhoods Commission is endorsing the device but only for a 12-month test. The commission agreed with the police department that the unmanned aerial system could be an important tool for police. |

The San Bernardino County Sheriff ordered an internal investigation Thursday into an arrest caught on NBC Los Angeles' NewsChopper4 video that showed deputies beating a suspect when they caught up to him following a wild desert chase on horseback.
Aerial footage showed the man falling off the horse he was suspected of stealing during the pursuit in San Bernardino County Thursday afternoon.
He then appeared to be stunned with a Taser by a sheriff's deputy and fall to the ground with his arms outstretched. Two deputies immediately descended on him and appeared to punch him in the head and knee him in the groin, according to the footage, reviewed several times by NBC4. |

Ten San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were placed on paid administrative leave Friday after TV news video showed them beating and kicking a suspect. Meanwhile, the FBI said it has opened a civil rights investigation into the incident.
Sheriff John McMahon announced the move to place the deputies -- including a sergeant and a detective -- on leave during a news conference Friday afternoon. He said some of the actions on the tape appeared "excessive."

JUDY WOODRUFF: It was widely reported today that Hillary Clinton will formally announce her run for the Democratic presidential nomination on Sunday. The former secretary of state, senator and first lady is expected to enter the ring via social media and then travel to early primary states.
Meanwhile, a dozen potential Republican presidential contenders took to the stage at the National Rifle Association annual convention in Nashville to woo one of their biggest constituencies, the gun lobby.

The Idaho Legislature clarified that Idahoans can carry concealed weapons outside city limits with a permit. In a broad rewrite of the state's weapons code, lawmakers also set guidelines for safety courses and fees that counties can charge for permits. However, lawmakers did not remove a controversial provision that lets lawmakers carry concealed weapons with no permit. They also didn't consider so-called "Constitutional Carry" legislation, backed by second-amendment groups. |

Senate President Andy Gardiner took to Facebook to set the record straight. He did not attempt to nix a bill that would allow guns on college campuses.
Gun rights groups have been sounding off that SB 176 was removed from being heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee this week at the hands of Gardiner.
Tuesday, he posted a photo of himself meeting with singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who was in Tallahassee performing for Everglades Action Day, but most comments on the post were from angry supporters of the campus carry bill. |

Former Gov. Rick Perry, drawing a sharp contrast between himself and his less-experienced rivals for the White House, said Friday the 2016 presidential race will be a "show-me-don't-tell-me election" in which the candidate with the strongest resume will prevail.
"2016 will not be an election about lofty rhetoric, but it's going to be about a record of leadership," Perry said during a speech at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn. Voters, he added, are going to "look past what you say to what you've done. They want a leader with firm resolve, a leader who says what he means and means what he says." |

Prospective 2016 Republican presidential candidates and the leaders of the National Rifle Association focused more on Hillary Clinton than President Barack Obama on Friday as they criticized their gun-control views and other policies.

Mississippians will not need a state-issued license to carry a concealed gun in a purse, briefcase or other fully enclosed satchel under a bill signed by Gov. Phil Bryant.
Bryant's office said Friday that the governor had signed Senate Bill 2394, which takes effect July 1.
The bill reduces fees for people to receive and renew a concealed-carry license. The fee for a new license would drop to $80 from $100, and the renewal fee for people younger than 65 would drop to $40 from $50. For people 65 and older, the renewal fee would drop to $20 from $25. |

Earlier this week, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed a bill that would allow employees to bring guns to workplace parking lots as long as the weapons are kept in their vehicles — regardless of the policies of an employer.
According to Cade Cothren, the senior press person for the Tennessee House of Representatives, the law — which is meant to clarify a similar measure signed into law in 2013 — tries to balance employer property rights with the property and Second Amendment rights of employees.
Unfortunately, all the law did was use government force to give priority to employees over employers. |

Anti-Second Amendment zealots are sure to be stirred up by a new study that claims 22 million Americans have severe anger issues and access to guns. The study, conducted by researchers at Harvard, Columbia and Duke universities, goes on to identify these angry people as generally young or middle-aged men living in suburban areas and having a history of impulsive and explosive anger issues. Targeting the votes of the nation's gun owners alongside other White House hopefuls, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker touted his loaded Second Amendment record in Tennessee before National Rifle Association members from around the nation.
With both Walker and Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. addressing the NRA's yearly conference in Nashville, Wisconsin was in the spotlight at the event. Besides Clarke, most of the other speakers Friday were heavyweight contenders for the GOP nomination for president, with only the mega-states of Texas and Florida joining Wisconsin in fielding two speakers at the summit.

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) on Friday said he would have no remorse if he used a gun in self-defense to protect himself or his loved ones.
“I will tell you without apology that if someone threatens them I would sacrifice my life to save them,” he said at the National Rifle Association Leadership Forum in Nashville.

On Tuesday March 31, 2015, the Florida House Finance &Tax Committee held a hearing on the House tax cut package bill PCB FTC 15-05.
Contained in the Proposed Committee Bill are two provisions for gun owners.
On page 47, Lines 1231-1235 is a provision inserted by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Shalimar) to EXPRESSLY PROHIBIT the Florida Department of Revenue (DOR) from forcing Gun Clubs to pay sales taxes on club membership dues and fees and stop DOR from activity that threatens to shut down Gun Club shooting ranges. |

The National Rifle Association holds an annual meeting every year in a different host city, and requires that attendees follow the federal, state, and local laws applicable in that city, like every major convention of every significant national group, ever.
This year in Tennessee, that means that attendees can indeed carry firearms in the Music City Center with the proper license in accordance with Tennessee law. Bridgestone Arena prohibits the possession of firearms, and always has. Attendees to the concerts held there are not allowed to carry weapons according to these pre-existing laws.

The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) applauds Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant today for signing into law Senate Bill 2394 and Senate Bill 2619. The Senate adopted conference committee reports on SB 2394 on a 49-3 vote and SB 2619 unanimously.The House passed them by margins of 103-15 and 98-18, respectively.
The new NRA-backed laws will reduce concealed carry permit fees, allow permitless concealed carry in purses and briefcases, and streamline enhanced carry training requirements for active military and veterans. |
