Faced with budget pressures and an invigorated gun control movement, the National Rifle Association has found a new cause amid the pandemic fighting to keep gun stores open as its fund-raising appeals depict the governments coronavirus response as a threat to Second Amendment rights.

On Thursday, the group sued the State of New York over its decision to include gun retailers among the many businesses that have been forced to close during the crisis. The N.R.A. had already filed two suits against California, where the governor had left the decision to counties.

A Coke County woman has been cleared of a 2018 murder charge in the shooting death of her husband. The court determined her claim of self-defense couldn't be disproved by the prosecution, according to court records. In June 2018, Jasmine Nichole Moreno was found in a kitchen pointing a gun at the body of her 30-year-old husband, Cisco Ray Moreno, according to an arrest affidavit.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is getting pressure to close down the states gun stores, which have been allowed to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic when most other retailers have had to shut their doors.

Under a series of executive orders including a stay-at-home order issued Monday Hogan has gradually closed schools, sit-down restaurants, malls, theaters, gyms, casinos and businesses deemed nonessential in hopes of slowing the spread of the virus.

Gun shops and shooting ranges, however, made the cut as an essential business.

The number of gun background checks hit an all-time high in March as panicked Americans rushed to buy firearms during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation performed an estimated 2.375 million background checks for gun sales, the record for a single month since the modern background check system was instituted in 1998, according to a new analysis. Last March, the FBI performed 1.3 million.

One way for anti-Second Amendment legislation to sneak past the radar of Second Amendment supporters is for the anti-Second Amendment extremist in office to engage in a form of microtargeting. Like the form used in advertising, anti-Second Amendment microtargeting aims at a very small portion of the whole, aiming to get a result without a lot of fighting.

This is what Representative Eliot Engel has done with HR 2670, the PLEA Act. The PLEA Acts long title is the Protect Law Enforcement Armor Act, and Engel is going for a two-fer with this bill.

Gun writers collectively tend to forget something we all want to carry a $5,000 custom defensive pistol but sometimes a large soft drink at the local Dairy Fairy is far beyond our personal net worth at the moment.

Ive been fortunate to climb to the top of the smoldering slag heap of national gun scribes but I try to always remember my rather humble beginnings as a rookie cop, with a wife, babies and creditors who unreasonably expected on-time payment. Back then, working for local government pay rates, my gun collection was pitiful, usually bordering on non-existent.

We must, therefore, vacate the courts finding of unconstitutionality and remand the cause to the circuit court to enter a modified judgment order that excludes that finding, said the majority opinion penned by Chief Justice Anne Burke. She was joined by Justices Thomas Killbride, Rita Garman and P. Scott Neville.

Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson said the states high court punted.

What they did was they decided that they didnt want to decide, so they sent it back to the circuit court, Pearson said.

Fifteen years ago if you wanted a super small handgun in a full size caliber with a capacity over 10 rounds, you were buying a Glock Model 26. As the search for the perfect concealed carry / off-duty / pocket gun evolved and manufacturers tried to answer the consumer demands, slimmer and smaller guns with less capacity were design. Perhaps one of the smallest was the Glock Model 42 chambered in .380ACP and having a six-round magazine capacity.

I would like to know if your big town publishing corporation think that after the initial court-ordered gun confiscation, that police should provide 24/7 personal protection for the former gun owner until the judge makes a final decision on police possession of the gun for one year.

Many battered women have been severely injured or murdered while only having a worthless restraining order for protection.

This year, Central New York will see a re-election battle between a current and a former member of Congress, Anthony Brindisi and Claudia Tenney. While there are major differences between the two, one of the biggest, and most important, is their support or in one case, lackthereof, for the Second Amendment.

When Tenney was in Congress and the Assembly, she held a number of events supporting Remington Arms in Ilion, one of the biggest employers in New York. She even voted and cosponsored a number of bills to advance Second Amendment rights across the country.

Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill made it clear Thursday to local units of government: You cannot restrict the sale of firearms during the COVID-19 crisis or any other time. No unit of government in the state of Indiana has the power to restrict the lawful exercise of the right to bear arms during a state or local emergency, Hill wrote in an opinion.

Background checks required to buy firearms have spiked to record numbers in the past month, fueled by increased activity from Americans worried about their safety during the coronavirus crisis.

According to figures from the FBI, 3.7 million background checks were done in March the most for a single month since the system began in 1998. It eclipsed the previous record, set in December 2015, when 3.3 million checks were conducted.

Don Spencer, president of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association recently released a video recapping OK2A's efforts to defeat recent encroachments on the Second Amendment Rights of Oklahoma citizens. In the video, Don recounts how he has challenged efforts of Lawton, OK government officials to shut down the local Academy Sports because it sells guns and ammunition. This was done by Lawton government officials as a response to the Coronavirus outbreak, but according to Mr. Spencer, runs afoul of state law.

Don's efforts weren't in vain, and he managed to overturn the closure and reopen Academy as well as other guns and ammo stores in the region.
