Imagine the sort of place Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer say no reasonable person should feel the need to be armed. (Sorry, that’s actually everywhere, but you get the picture.)

Once such place would be restaurants/sports bars, where millions of Americans go for dinner each night. And last week, when a man walked into the Zona Caliente sports bar in Arlington, Texas, and began acting erratically, the manager intervened and was shot dead by the man, who was later found to have two guns and two knives on his person.

Yes, we need the expansion of background checks to every gun sale in every state. Yes, we should consider stiffer penalties for people carrying dangerous long guns. But right now our Illinois House needs to finish the job that the Senate started and pass the Gun Dealer Licensing Act.

A bill that would prohibit domestic violence offenders from owning guns has sparked heated debate in Rhode Island.

The proposal, House Bill 5510, would essentially prohibit gun possession from people subject to domestic restraining orders and from those convicted of misdemeanor cyberstalking and domestic violence.

Under current state law, guns can be taken away from those convicted of felony assault, but someone would have to be convicted of at least three domestic assaults before being charged with a felony.

Comp-Tac Victory Gear's International holster is designed for competition, and also works for defensive carry, thanks to several fast mover features that fit the majority of competition and self-defense handguns.

Think of the International as the workhorse of competition holsters and you will see why it is both a popular self-defense carry holster and the holster of choice for most IDPA competitors for the last five years.

G2 Research aims high, looking to turn the .380 ACP into a “serious fight stopper” with the new Civic Duty high-expansion ammunition.

The .380 ACP Civic Duty self-defense round utilizes a pure copper, 69 grain, CNC machined bullet that flies at 1,250 feet per second. Upon impact, the bullet instantly expands into six copper petals measuring almost one-inch in diameter. According to the company, the sharp, copper petals create more pain upon impact while opening a large, permanent wound channel.

Advocates for gun safety laws are gearing up for a new fight on Capitol Hill.

President Donald Trump wants to expand concealed carry laws, and there's a growing debate on how the measure would affect Maryland.

Gun rights groups argue since your driver’s license is recognized by all 50 states, the same should be true for a concealed carry permit.

“The eight-year assault on your First Amendment rights has come to a crashing end,” President Donald Trump told the National Rifle Association recently.

The Republican candidate for Montana’s empty U.S. House seat worked to align himself with President Donald Trump on Thursday while standing next to Trump’s eldest son, who played up protecting the Second Amendment to a crowd of about 300 during his second trip to the state in less than a month.

Greg Gianforte, a Bozeman technology entrepreneur who lost a bid for governor last fall in his first foray into Montana politics, spoke with Donald Trump Jr. at the Kleffner Ranch in East Helena, the first of four rallies statewide in Butte, Sidney and Great Falls.

FL: Gun rights hardly in jeopardy; however, one precious right is

For many Second Amendment enthusiasts, the Constitution is the holiest of documents. A measly law barring terrorists from owning guns or students from carrying guns on school campuses is akin to throwing the entire document into a furnace.

...

If Second Amendment enthusiasts want to protect the Constitution, they need to start with the Sixth Amendment. It is far more frayed today than the Second Amendment.

Those whose Sixth Amendment rights are violated are disproportionately poor minorities. The GOP-dominated NRA usually does not see such Americans as a priority. A pity.

Ed.: While nearly all amendments are in sorry shape today, including the Sixth, so too is the Second.

A writer for the Huffington Post noted in a recent piece — “A Revision on the Bill of Rights, Part III” — that the Second Amendment certainly gives Americans the right to “carry and have a stockpile of guns.”

But Justin Curmi seems to have a bit of an issue with the right to “self-defend with a firearm.”

“The main problem with the notion of self-defense is it imposes on justice, for everyone has the right for a fair trial,” he writes. “Therefore, using a firearm to defend oneself is not legal because if the attacker is killed, he or she is devoid of his or her rights.”

Griffin advises women to get a conceal-and-carry permit and always have a gun nearby. “I have a gun and I know how to shoot it, but I wasn’t trained and ready,” Griffin confided. “That could have cost my kids’ and my friends’ lives.” She plans to get her permit and take a women’s self-defense class that is going on every Wednesday at the Lake Area Gracie Jiujitsu in Camdenton.

“I want to tell moms out there to always be alert. If you see something abnormal, tell someone. And don’t say it won’t ever happen to you. It can, and if it does your choice is to fight or flight. He was bold enough to come into my house in broad daylight with three cars in the driveway. That told me he was dangerous and he intended to do harm.”

Under rules governing pistol permits, a pistol permit holder visits a gun shop and purchases a handgun. He or she is then given a receipt from the gun shop, which they currently take to the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport and present to pistol permit clerks there, who then modify their pistol permit with what is known as an “amendment”: typically, a listing of the newly-purchased handgun model and serial number. They then receive their amended permit, their receipt, and a coupon that they must take back to the gun shop. Once there, the gun shop exchanges the coupon for the gun.

In a three-minute campaign video launched Monday, May 8, U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va., announced a bid to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin.

...

The campaign video juxtaposes shots of the West Virginia countryside over clips of past Manchin campaign ads, as Jenkins provides a running commentary on how Manchin has allegedly gone back on campaign promises and betrayed voters.

Jenkins accuses Manchin of flipping on a campaign promise to protect the Second Amendment by "pushing gun control with Barack Obama and New York liberals."

All three appeals court judges struck down Fisher’s case Friday, though Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski criticized state law’s “notably slender” path to Second Amendment rights’ restoration: a gubernatorial pardon. Comparatively, federal law provides four different ways to get ownership rights back.

“The time has come to treat the Second Amendment as a real constitutional right,” he wrote in court documents Friday. “It’s here to stay.”

When it comes to anti-gun legislators constantly pushing for more restrictive firearm laws, few hold a candle to gun-hater Chuck Schumer. A U.S. senator from New York and the current Senate minority leader, Schumer has spent his long career trying to make life more difficult for law-abiding gun owners, while doing very little to actually address violent crime.

Schumer seems to be an intelligent man, but his lack of understanding of America’s lawful gun owners and their (lack of) relationship to violent crime tells a different story. As does his apparent lack of understanding of one very basic political principal.

The Elgin City Council Wednesday night approved measures to make way for Mark Glavin's Fox Valley Shooting Club in a strip mall at the northwest corner of McLean Boulevard and College Green Drive.

"I have searched my soul, and I honestly believe this gun range won't be a danger to any child," council member Rose Martinez said. "People ask if I would have this in my neighborhood. I say, absolutely ... this is regulated, when you register by FOID card and when you come in. I think this gentleman has gone above and beyond what we've been asking."

"I'm voting for this not for the fear of being sued but out of respect for the Constitution," Councilman Toby Shaw said.

An associate professor of history and American studies at the University of Kansas (KU) loudly announced his departure from the faculty after 10 years by having his resignation letter published on May 5 by the Topeka Capital-Journal. Wrote associate professor Jacob Dorman:

In light of the state of Kansas’ apparent determination to allow the concealed carry of firearms in the classrooms of the University of Kansas, I am writing to tender my resignation effective two weeks from today as an associate professor of history and American studies at the university. I have accepted a job in a state that bans concealed carry in classrooms.

According to WFAA, 65-year-old Jamie said, “[The suspect] kept saying, ‘Where is the safe?’ and I would say, ‘I don’t have the safe’ and he would press [the gun] into my head.”

He called police when the suspect left his bedroom, and police arrived one hour and twenty-seven minutes later.

Jamie’s call is what the Dallas Police Department labels a “Priority 2” call. Such calls are currently “being answered in about 22 minutes,” but Officer Nick Novello said, “In many instances, Priority 2 calls can be held for 30 minutes or up to three or four hours.” The response time for Jamie fell right between Dallas PD’s 22 minute norm and the four hours to which Novello alluded.

Since the election, gun shops nationwide have reported seeing a drop in gun demand.

It was 9 a.m. during an April workweek and the gunfire hadn't yet begun. Dressed in light camouflage pants, a five-shot revolver on his side, Darren Leung flipped on the lights and took care of priority number one — starting a pot of coffee.

His gun range in the Manhattan basement of an office building on West 20 Street would soon be crowded, and good coffee was essential. There would be law enforcement types arriving for target practice, New Yorkers seeking help to apply for handgun licenses, and newbies enrolling in classes to learn to fire a .22-caliber rifle.

The new law still allows guns to be carried across campuses and into classrooms.

This is what will inevitably happen. There are ideologically minded students on every campus who are old enough to have a carry permit and itching to make a statement about Second Amendment rights.

You will see them flaunt the new law as they strut into classes with a Glock automatic strapped to their hip or an AR-15 assault rifle slung over their shoulder.

Many students will get up and leave the class, not because they are left-wing snowflakes but simply because they don’t like to be in the same room with a gun.
