Sometimes, liberty-minded individuals raise their hands in consternation and proclaim, “I’ve had enough”. The assaults to freedom, and the twisted, belly-crawling, shameless excuses politicians inflict on us are just too frequent, the insults infinitely debased and insulting. Our self-serving pal, Chris Murphy, a Democrat Senator from Connecticut, has provided us with yet another of those “supernova-of-insults”. He seems to have a real affinity for this kind of thing.

As mass shootings have become increasingly deadly and commonplace, more and more Americans’ thoughts on gun control seem to be evolving. Some of them have even done so in full view of the public eye. “Since U Been Gone” singer Kelly Clarkson has long been a proud gun owner. It’s something she’s spoken about publicly several times, including in an NPR interview in 2012 in which she revealed that she owned nine guns and slept with a Colt .45 nearby.

America has had a long history of nullification, the idea that federal laws can be ignored within the borders of a particular state. More broadly, it is the notion that the rules don’t apply if I and the people in my neighborhood—or jury box or county or half of the continent west of the Mississippi—don’t agree with them.

As the horrific events at Santa Fe High school unfolded, all the usual experts popped up on TV panels and interviews once again recycling their “never again” and “we’ve-gotta-do-something” solutions. A pair of local legislators will make yet another run at banning gun shows at the Cow Palace — and they say growing American revulsion at mass shootings, particularly at high schools, puts momentum in their favor. The cavernous, state-owned exhibition hall in Daly City hosts five gun shows a year, the most recent in April, but those shows have drawn a growing number of protesters as gun massacres proliferated throughout the nation. State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, is now proposing legislation that would ban the sales of guns or ammunition at the hall, beginning in 2020.

Several gun massacres ago, when Sandy Hook happened, conservatives seemed at first stunned — not at the deaths of twenty children and six adults, but at the unprecedented bad publicity this meant for their NRA donors. But they quickly recovered and bravely fought for the right of every crackpot and psychopath to have as many killing sticks as he could pay for.
