Ann Arbor Public Schools officials do not expect the district's liability insurance cost to rise because of a gun lawsuit.

Deb Mexicotte, Ann Arbor school board president, said the board asked the district's insurance company, Zurich Insurance, to underwrite the expenses, which is typical when the district faces a lawsuit.

On Monday, April 27, Michigan Gun Owners and Ann Arbor parent Ulysses Wong filed the suit against the district in Washtenaw County Circuit Court, claiming a new weapons policy violates state laws.

Two judges said we can pass laws that don’t work, as long as the law is politically popular. The judges may be surprised how the public really feels about firearms.

A recent Pew poll found that more Americans think a gun in the home makes them safer rather than less safe. The poll also reported that a majority of citizens think it is more important for government to protect the right to own guns rather than to limit gun ownership. The firearms ordinance in Highland Park, Illinois is out of step with public opinion. The politicians are behind the times even if using public emotion is the right method to decide the issue.

Police say two Utah men fatally shot would-be criminals a few miles apart over the weekend, but neither shooter is expected to face charges in a gun-friendly state that was one of the first to pass a "Stand Your Ground"-style law more than 20 years ago.

In the first shooting, a man who holds a concealed carry permit intervened when a carjacker jumped into a woman's vehicle in Orem on Saturday morning. The perpetrator was shot while lunging for the bystander's gun, police say.

Hours later, a homeowner in Pleasant Grove shot a man who pounded on his front door in the middle of the night, climbed to a second-floor balcony and attempted to force his way in, police say.

A Colorado teen is dead after he broke into a Boulder home Monday night and attacked the homeowner, and according to authorities, the suspect had tried to break into several other homes in the neighborhood that same night, banging loudly on doors and windows while yelling.

The couple said they were watching television around 8:40 p.m. when they heard loud banging at a window in the back of their house. The female resident went to call 911 and the male resident grabbed a gun.

The Second Amendment Foundation joined Defense Distributed on Wednesday in a federal lawsuit against John Kerry’s State Department over censorship of 3-D firearm plans.

In May 2013, Cody Wilson, through his Austin, Texas-based company Defense Distributed, created the Liberator, a nearly entirely 3-D printed, single shot .380 ACP pistol which he freely shared the plans for online.

In the first two days, the files were downloaded nearly 100,000 times.

State lawmakers are bringing knives to the gunfight.

Expanding the battle over the right to bear arms, U.S. legislatures that relaxed laws after the gun lobby’s decades-long push are now loosening restrictions on switchblades, dirks, daggers and poignards.

The charge is being led by a group whose leadership includes a wilderness-survival entrepreneur, a National Rifle Association board member and a Joy of Cooking co-author who travels with a 7-inch Santoku knife for slicing thyme-stuffed pork loin roasted on a spit over a campfire.

Brakey’s bill, LD 652, would allow law-abiding Mainers to exercise their Second Amendment rights. It is supported by a majority of Maine lawmakers, so has more support than opposition (the side of the story the Sun Journal chose to report). The bill was tabled in committee by a partisan vote that was meant to delay action on the bill so out-of-state special interest groups could spend money flooding the airwaves to lie to Mainers about what this bill truly does.

Coos County commissioners were wise to take a step back Tuesday from taking any immediate action concerning the firearms background check bill that’s apparently on its way to becoming law in Salem.

We’ve already taken a position against this legislation. Our argument has always been that the law doesn’t begin to address core issues of instilling firearm respect and responsibility, or the associated mental health problems that lead troubled individuals to act out with violence.

Can a country with a First Amendment and a Second Amendment forbid someone from spreading communication regarding how to make a gun? (And can a country with a Fifth Amendment guarantee of due process of law do so essentially through a vague threat without ever officially telling you whether you are even actually breaking the law?)

Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed, along with the Second Amendment Foundation, filed a federal lawsuit in Texas yesterday trying to answer that question with a resounding "no"!

A federal judge on Thursday threw out a lawsuit challenging parts of Washington state’s new law expanding background checks on gun transfers, saying gun-rights activists couldn’t challenge it because they aren’t being prosecuted for violating it.

U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle in Tacoma ruled that opponents of the law didn’t have standing to challenge the parts of Initiative 594 that required background checks for noncommercial gun transfers. To challenge the law, the plaintiffs must show they’ve been actually prosecuted or at immediate risk of being prosecuted, he said.

State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) has announced the reintroduction of his Right to Bear Arms Protection Act that would make all future federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth (House Bill 357).

“The ongoing acts of mob violence taking place in Baltimore should offer undeniable proof to all elected officials that disarming law-abiding citizens through senseless gun control laws is the wrong answer when it comes to protecting life, liberty and property from criminal thugs who have no respect for human decency or the rule of the law,” said Metcalfe.

After watching in frustration as several pro-gun bills were left on the table as Florida’s latest legislative session came to an abrupt close, I guess I started to dream the impossible dream.

I came up with 10 bills — five federal and five state — which I’d like to see introduced.

Some are already in the works, or have become law in other states. A few others have been attempted but have failed to garner enough support. One is an idea long past overdue.

The man who first published plans for a 3D-printed gun has sued the State Department for threatening him into taking down the code – arguing that the government has violated his right to free speech online.

In 2013, Cody Wilson fired the world’s first 3D-printed gun, a single-shot plastic handgun, on a remote ranch in his home state of Texas. Shortly afterward the 25-year-old posted instructions online for “the Liberator”, as he called the gun, and the State Department promptly threatened criminal charges and massive fines for his having possibly broken the export rules surrounding weapons and military technology.

Failed efforts to allow people to carry concealed weapons on college campuses and to allow some public-school employees and volunteers to be armed will be back before lawmakers next year.

Marion Hammer, lobbyist for the National Rifle Association and the Unified Sportsmen of Florida, said Wednesday those measures will return despite running into opposition in the Senate this year.

"The things that were worth working on this year will be worth working on next year," Hammer said. "All of these good pieces of legislation will be back until they pass."

As a retail firearms dealer, I have been dealing with the Brady background check system every day for the past 20 years. The question is, do background checks actually reduce violent crime?

lt-wearing, gun-toting activists mobbed a Texas police station to protest comments made by the chief against proposed open carry legislation.

Austin police Chief Art Acevado recently criticized a bill that appears likely to pass the GOP legislature to allow the open carry of firearms, saying the legislation sounds like something drafted by “criminals, drug cartels, and extremists.”

About 30 activists, including Open Carry Texas members, carried shotguns, AR-15 rifles, and other long guns Wednesday afternoon to the Austin police headquarters – the scene of a shootout nearly six months ago between officers and a white supremacist.

Yesterday’s New York Daily News reported that the anti-gun Everytown for Gun Safety “carped” that the gun used to murder New York Police officer Brian Moore was “an illegal gun from Georgia” but the Michael Bloomberg-funded gun prohibition lobbying group ignored an inconvenient truth.

“Once again,” the newspaper quoted Everytown, “a police officer has been killed with an illegal gun from Georgia — a state that last year did the NRA’s bidding and weakened its already lax gun laws.”

Within the past few years, AKs have steadily become more popular in the United States. As such, the accessory and gear aftermarkets for the platform have also expanded. Whether it’s because the base guns themselves are more expensive or simply that shooters are developing a serious appreciation for Kalashnikovs, people are more willing to spend money on them.

This is a good thing. It lets shooters wring the maximum possible potential out of their firearms. Anyone who says that AKs are only good as a barebones, junky “trunk guns” probably hasn’t shot them enough and learned what they’re capable of.
