When it comes to the scholarly debate about the iconic rifle cartridges of the Cold War, the 7.62x51mm NATO (308 Winchester) and the 7.62x39 Soviet are always omnipresent in the discussion. One became a staple NATO round and the most prevalent big game hunting cartridge in North America, while the other became a symbol of pure, unadulterated ruggedness and dependability. |

On June 5, in an unanimous decision by Justice Elena Kagan, the Supreme Court ruled in Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos that Mexico failed plausibly to plead that the American firearm industry aided and abetted unlawful sales routing guns to Mexican drug cartels. The decision not only adds teeth to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), it also recognizes that semiautomatic rifles like the AR-15 are in wide use by Americans, verifying that they meet Heller's common-use test. |

Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) have filed a motion for summary judgment in a federal challenge to Florida’s unconstitutional ban on open carry, a shameful stain on a state that claims such undying allegiance to the Constitution and the Second Amendment. Florida is among only five states in the U.S. that ban open carry, joining California, Connecticut, Illinois, and New York, adding shame and insult to injury for the Sunshine State. |

“Musket vs. AR-15: Judges Are Throwing Out Gun Restrictions Because of Antiquated Laws from America’s Founding,” a Wednesday hit piece on the right to keep and bear arms presented as a news report by The Trace, “published in partnership with Slate,” laments. “A 2022 Supreme Court decision that gun laws should align with the nation’s ‘history and tradition’ has sown confusion in courtrooms and weakened longstanding limits on firearms.” |
