In 1986 the FOPA Firearms Owners Protection Act expanded on the definition of "silencers" to include and parts for the assembly or fabrication of a silencer. Also included was the banning of the manufacture of, or importation of full auto firearms. Unless for Government agencies. Hmm, I don't see a whole lot of protection for firearms owners there.

The general misconception is that any statue passed by legislators bearing the appearance of law constitutes the law of the land. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and any statue, to be valid, must be in agreement. It is impossible for a law which violates the Constitution to be valid.

How do you teach something you can’t think about?
The book is written for firearms instructors, range operators who set training curricula, and for serious students who want to understand armed defense and how to learn it. It does an excellent job at presenting new material and focusing our attention on what we thought we knew.

Why is this interesting?
Much of our training methodology is carried over from instruction given to the military and law enforcement. Karl Rehn and John Daub peal another layer off the onion of established methods and get us closer to the truth about effective firearms instruction.

IN THE wake of the tragic shooting in Virginia Beach that claimed the lives of 12 people, Gov. Ralph Northam has called for a special legislative session to address gun-related violence.

Using the shooting as a call to action, he then proposed a variety of restrictions on lawful gun owners—not one of which would have prevented or even mitigated the very shooting used to justify them.

Following last session’s elimination of the “illegal knives” category, including Bowie knives and daggers, Texas once again jumps the gun on passing up smarter laws regulating guns in favor of expanding the limits of open carry for other weapons.

Beginning September 1, 2019 Texans will now be legally permitted to have brass knuckles and clubs, in addition to other self-defense keychains made with the intent to strike a person.

HB 446, signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, effectively removes brass knuckles from the prohibited weapons list set forth by the Texas Penal Code, and removes clubs from the unlawful to carry list.

In 1986, the Firearms Owners' Protection Act was passed and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan. It had the effect of greatly reducing the burden on law-abiding citizens who wished to exercise their Second Amendment rights – even though the Hughes Amendment was included. As Duane Liptak said, even though that poison pill was inserted, FOPA was worth it.

I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion. —THOMAS JEFFERSON
