The Ruger PC Carbine is new and improved from the original introduced a few years ago. When it hit the market, the carbine wasn’t the first to marry pistol and rifle caliber and magazine compatibility, but it sure was nifty – not to mention fun. Now, a couple of years into the family tree, you can order two varieties: a standard forend model available in 9mm and .40 S&W and the new free-floated barrel version with M-LOK handguard shown here. The two rifles operate identically with a blowback design and both are takedown models with threaded barrels. More on that later. We’re going to focus on the spiffier M-LOK version as that’s the carbine that one of you will win.

MI: Don't Want Armed Nazis? Legislature Should Fix Michigan's Stupid Gun Laws

Want to give local police departments the means to keep armed Nazis off Detroit's streets?

Change Michigan's open carry laws.

It's just that simple.

And just that complicated, because our GOP-led Legislature is extremely unlikely to do anything of the sort.

After last week's protest, I emailed spokespeople for Sen. Maj. Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, and House Speaker Lee Chatfield, R-Levering, to ask whether the exploitation of Michigan's open carry laws by Nazi protesters would prompt either to reconsider revising those laws, at least with a view toward granting local law enforcement autonomy to handle potentially dangerous situations.

Neither provided a response.

Newsweek is reporting that “Two potentially sweeping gun violence prevention bills were introduced to Congress” this week, but what the story didn’t say is that both measures appear to treat rights enumerated in the Constitution as privileges.

The first of these measures, according to the story, is the “Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act,” introduced in the Senate by anti-gun Maryland Democrat Sen Chris Van Hollen and in the House by Democrat Congressman Jamie Raskin, also of Maryland. Joining Van Hollen in the Senate are Democrats Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, while the House version is joined by Johana Hayes., all from Connecticut.

Maryland banned “high capacity” magazines and a variety of “assault weapons” via the Firearm Safety Act of 2013. That Act also required would-be handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to the state police as a part of the registration scenario. On March 27, 2017, Breitbart News reported the criminal use of “high capacity” magazines was at a seven-year high. In other words, the ban had only impacted law-abiding citizens. Criminals still had – and still used – the prohibited magazines.

Flag Day: The Forgotten History of America’s Flag Day and What It Commemorates

Flag Day was once called the “runty stepchild among American national holidays” by the New York Times. While it may not be the grandest of our country’s celebrations, it’s impossible to talk about Flag Day without briefly discussing why Old Glory was originally created, and what it means today. We may know the flag as a strong symbol of patriotism, but at the time of the American Revolution, it had a much more pragmatic purpose: It existed to distinguish the American military forces from the British.

S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson says there’s a slippery-slope reason he joined a U.S. Supreme Court gun silencer case out of Kansas. The three-term Republican sided with six other red states in arguing that protecting Americans’ access to silencers is fundamentally in the same vein as protecting their access to bullets.

Glock Guns Made in the USA? Yes, This Is Happening. This year Sig Sauer, Inc. appears to be on track to supersede its German counterpart, Sig Sauer GmbH. Pistols that were previously only made in Germany are now being made in the United States. Some may wonder, will Glock head in the same direction in the future? Some Glock models are now being produced in the United States, although the majority of Glocks are still made in Austria.

Bill Maher, host of the HBO show “Real Time”, cautioned Democrats to not use firearm restrictions as a major policy objective of their 2020 election platform. Maher explained during a panel discussion on his show June 7the issue is not a good strategy for the party. “We’ve lost elections before on this issue, which is not a winning issue for Democrats,” he said. “First of all, liberals should learn more about guns. I don’t know much about guns because, again, I don't care, I don’t like them, but I hear this from gun people.”

Efforts to allow Mainers to "stand their ground" and to punish adults who fail to secure loaded firearms have failed in the Legislature. The newly Democratic-controlled Legislature proposed several gun policy bills this year, and hopes to compromise on legislation to keep guns out of the wrong hands. Meanwhile, two gun bills rejected in committee died last week.

If you live in California, you’d better run out and buy all the ammunition you can afford (after you finish reading this article, of course). Beginning July 1, a new state law will require everyone attempting to purchase ammunition to pass a background check and show a government-issued ID.

West Virginia’s deer hunters didn’t break any records in 2018, but they certainly managed to kill their share of trophy bucks. Eighty-five bucks qualified for inclusion in the West Virginia Big Buck Certification Program, run by the state Division of Natural Resources. The program recognizes firearm kills whose antlers measure at least 140 inches and archery kills whose antlers measure at least 125. Fourteen firearm kills earned Big Buck Certificates. The rest were killed by archers using conventional bows or crossbows. No muzzleloader kills qualified in 2018.

Trapshooting is a dying sport, according to Robert Sproesser of Perry Township Game Association. Many of his comrades at other Berks' shooting clubs concur. There are a number of reasons for this, including an aging fan base, the start-up expense of guns and gear and the rising popularity of pistol shooting, especially among women.

The .327 Federal Magnum was introduced in 2008 as a powerful personal-protection cartridge for revolvers, as we've previously covered on Shooting Illustrated in this article here by Richard Mann. It is close to the venerable .357 Magnum in performance, but has about 30 percent less recoil. The Ruger SP101 was the first revolver chambered for this round, and it had an advantage over the same gun chambered in .357 Magnum. It held six rounds of .327 Federal Magnum but only five rounds of .357 Magnum.

It's a fact: The popularity of appendix carry (AIWB) is on the rise. Driven by this uptick in demand, many holster makers are scrambling to fill the category either with all-new offerings, or by repurposing suitable holsters to serve as options for the appendix-carry devotee. Some, to be sure, are doing both. As such, it appears high time to cast a weather eye around the market. Whether a member of the newly converted (like myself), or one of the early adopters of this style of carry, here are a few options currently available for those preferring to keep their pistols out front.

I Wish the Gay Community Were More Accepting of Gun Supporters. I Should Know.

Last June, I attended my first Pride parade. I’m a 24-year-old gay man, and the downtown D.C. event came two months after I started my new job as social media manager for the National Rifle Association. The District, where I live, is a liberal city. Gay people are embraced; guns are not. You don’t have to see how the District votes to know that. You can tell by the signs in people’s yards and the bumper stickers on their cars. The gay community is largely anti-gun, too.

If you attended the Annual Meetings and Exhibits earlier this year in Indianapolis, you may have caught wind of the new plans to open a new NRA National Marksmanship Competition Center at Camp Atterbury—the active National Guard base that has been the home of the NRA National High Power Rifle Championships since 2017. If you weren’t in Indy this year, maybe you were hit with this monumental news while perusing the usual news and events of the day. Either way, one thing is certain—starting in 2020, the NRA National Smallbore Championships and the National Precision Pistol Championships will be conducted at Camp Atterbury, joining the NRA High Power Rifle Championships, which have been held there since 2017.

One morning in early December, 23-year-old Andrew Black of Vermont bought a gun. And a few hours later, he used that gun to kill himself. We first spoke to Andrew's mother, Alyssa Black, shortly after her son's death. She was calling for Vermont to pass legislation requiring a cooling-off period between when a person can walk into a gun store and walk out with a firearm.
