Everything about sixgun power changed when the .44 Magnum arrived in late 1955. After graduating from high school in 1956 I started my journey down the path marked “Serious Sixgunnin’.” My first never-to-be-forgotten encounter with the Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum occurred later that summer. The recoil, to those of us used to nothing heavier than .45 Colt, .45 ACP and .357 Magnum sixguns was indescribable. After firing the first round I would have quit if I was by myself. However, I could not do that in front of my friends so I fired the rest of them and was very glad it was only a six-shooter and I only had five more rounds to fire.

Debuting in 2016, the little Ruger LCP II offered a highly concealable package that suited Ruger’s “Light Compact Pistol” designation, hence the LCP. While short on frills and extras – expect no sight upgrades or rails here – this minute single-stack .380 semi-auto handgun managed to gain a fan base that continues today despite the fact that calling it pint-sized would overstate its actual dimensions.

The intent of the Framers controls our interpretation of a constitutional provision. We must discern the Framers' intent from the plain meaning of the language used and may resort to extrinsic aids only if the express language is vague or ambiguous. Even in the context of clear and unambiguous language, however, we determine constitutional intent not only from the plain language, but also by considering the circumstances under which the Constitution was drafted, the nature of the subject matter the Framers faced, and the objective they sought to achieve.

Military surplus rifles have long been used for hunting. The years following the two world wars of the last century had a significant impact on much more than the borders of Europe. One of the many facets of life on our planet affected by those wars was the supply of firearms. We’ve probably all heard a story about someone bringing home a rifle from distant lands or some other fantastic story featuring one of the many surplus rifles that was either destined for or retired from the fields of battle.
