Once again, after a senseless act of violence, gun ownership opponents — including those in the news media — rush to penalize millions of lawful firearms owners for something they didn’t do.

The mayhem in Virginia Beach was the act of a man who legally purchased the two pistols recovered by authorities at the scene. He was an employee of the Public Utilities Department, and reportedly had a good work record.

People are asking why the shooter in Virginia Beach used a gun to settle his workplace score. The answer is probably pretty simple. When a man has a gun, he literally holds the power of life and death in his hand. That kind of power is extraordinarily seductive. With a gun in his hand, a man can look around a room, a building, or a public area and specifically identify who will instantaneously die and whom he will allow to live. It’s a power that traditionally has only been held by doctors, priests, police, and soldiers.

The policy change essentially tells firearms manufacturers and gun store retailers that they're no longer allowed to utilize the service to collect payments because of products and goods that they sell.

Seattle’s ‘Gun Problem’: Blame, Penalize Law-Abiding Citizens

Noted in the third paragraph of a KOMO News story about the shooting death of a Seattle woman last Friday in the Beacon Hill neighborhood is the fact that the suspect “has nine prior felony convictions,” which disqualified him from legal gun ownership or possession.

It is not a unique problem to the Jet City. Other cities are homes to people who shouldn’t have guns, and one thing those cities all seem to have in common is that “solutions” to the problem of so-called “gun violence” typically impact only the law-abiding citizens who didn’t commit any crimes.

Low-power variable optics in the 1-4X magnification range and up have become a popular option for both 3-Gun competition shooters and people interested in using an AR-pattern gun for defensive purposes. A low-power variable optic, or LPVO, lets you see and engage close range targets at 1X power, and then, with the twist of a knob, they can quickly zoom up to higher powers in order to engage targets at longer ranges.

With the perpetually changing policy landscape due to citizens responding to strict gun control legislation, the entire Second Amendment sanctuary movement is difficult for the average person to keep tabs on. In a once or twice a week occurrence of a growing national trend, resident councils in counties and municipalities are adopting directives which allow law abiding firearms owners to maintain their rights towards self-defense in states where unreasonable and unfeasible regulations have been passed in creating a toxic divide between urban and rural regions.

A prosecutor charged two Detroit Police sergeants with official misconduct and assault and battery Monday for attacking a man in a casino parking garage, prompting the police chief and a police union chief to say they’ve been “overcharged.”

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Sgt. Raytheon Martin, 40, and Sgt. Lacell Rue, 35, in the July 22, 2018, incident at the Greektown Casino.

In an incident captured on video, a 26-year-old Detroit man did not make any aggressive physical gesture before Martin struck the man in the back of the head and punched him multiple times while he was on the ground and that Rue shocked the man twice with a stun gun while he held his hands up, Worthy’s office said in a news release.

ABC News quoted Swalwell saying, “Ban and buy back every single assault weapon in America. I’m the only candidate calling for that.”

Swalwell has been making this push for over a year, and it has morphed into the central component of his current campaign. His ban has gone through many revisions along the way, but one thing has stayed constant–commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles will be banned and taken from law-abiding citizens. Those who do not comply will face punishment that falls somewhere between jail time and being nuked.

America's Sovereign States: The Obscure History of How 10 Independent States Joined the U.S

It is often said that before the Civil War, the United States “are,” but after the War, the United States “is.” This is a reference to the formerly theoretically sovereign nature of each state as compared to “one nation, indivisible.” More than just the theoretic sovereignty of the individual states, the territory now comprising the U.S. has a rich history of sovereign states outside the control of the federal government. Some of these you’ve almost certainly heard of, but a lot of them are quite obscure. Each points toward a potential American secession of the future.

Democrats want background checks for firearm transfers, but Republicans blocked that from coming to the floor. Democrats want to ban guns designed to hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, but Republicans also blocked that from coming to the floor. These are two of the 14 bills from earlier this year that Democrats want reconsidered in light of the shooting at Virginia Beach.

Although it’s been a couple months since I last posted about the Rock Island .45, the gun hasn’t been idling in the safe. I used its second range session to raise the round count, make sure everything was holding together well, and get past what might be considered the break-in period, were such a period required. Thankfully, the Rock Ultra MS handled the 400th cartridge as adeptly as it did the first.

The Sig Sauer P226 Has a Big Following (This One Gun Might Be Better)

The difference between the Sig Sauer P226 and Beretta 92 SB-F in a government competition was minimal, so much so that Beretta basically won the competition on a cost basis. However, soldiers would grumble about Berettas for decades, with soldiers in the early 2000s complaining about a lack of reliability. The Army probably thought that the minimal differences in performance meant the decision could be made solely on a cost basis. While fair enough an assumption, use in multiple wars, across three decades, and an arsenal of hundreds of thousands of guns meant that a difference of just a few percentage points would still lead to markedly higher levels of unreliability.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.— Benjamin Franklin Historical Review of Pennsylvania. [Note: This sentence was often quoted in the Revolutionary period. It occurs even so early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. — Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ]
