Gun rights advocates celebrated the passage of House Bill 1284, which adds a protection for Hoosiers from legal action following a justified use of force.

The bill also addresses several other issues related to firearms.

New legislation signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb takes effect this month.

“The initial purpose of (HB 1284) was to protect Hoosiers’ rights to protect themselves and not be bankrupted after a justified use of force,” Indiana State Rep. Jim Lucas said.

According to the sheriff’s office, a homeowner called 911 about his neighbor who was trying to break into his house. The homeowner said this intruding neighbor was acting strange and threatening.

Daviess County Chief Detective Bill Thompson (paraphrasing for clarity) said, ‘Apparently the intruder came in earlier that morning, and the resident was able to convince the him to leave. The intruder did, in fact, leave. Unfortunately, a short time later, he came back, this time armed’.

Curiously, the GFSZA had bipartisan support, with 2020 Democratic Party Presidential front-runner Joe Biden introducing this legislation and Republican President George H.W. Bush signed this bill into law. Since 1950, 98 percent of mass shootings have taken place in gun-free zones, with schools being one of the primary locations that these atrocities are carried out in. With nearly 30 years in existence, it’s become abundantly clear that the GFSZA is a failure.

First, it encourages all gun retailers to use the electronic method of reporting gun sales to state police, as required by law, rather than the mailed-in method used by too many gun shops.

“It adds time, creates backlog, and it holds up investigations all across Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said.

“This inhibits the ability of law enforcement to quickly trace guns required at crime scenes, determine where they came from, who purchased them, and how they became weapons in a crime,” Shapiro added.

That was in 1994. Since then, I've been back every year, sometimes more than once and have broadcasted no less than four radio shows from those famous streets. I've made lifelong friends in town, from street actors to hotel owners and Tombstone Marshal’s Deputies. I've supported the efforts of the town's tourism and Lions clubs and heck, even walked the streets with Alan Gottlieb. Just this past year alone by the time September rolls around, I will have been there a total of three times. So what is it that draws me to this admittedly out of the way place in the middle of the desert?

The Texas Legislature passed a number of bills concerning the Second Amendment right to bear arms this summer.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1143 on June 10, allowing licensed gun holders to store handguns, firearms and ammunition in their locked cars in school parking areas. Districts and charter schools will not be allowed to prohibit people, including school employees, from this as long as nothing is in plain view.

While discussing the existential battle that has resulted from Andrew Cuomo’s politically-motivated abuse of financial regulations, there are other crises that Second Amendment supporters will need to deal with. One of those is Silicon Valley’s decision to take part in silencing certain views.

There should be no doubt about this. Project Veritas blew this wide open late last month. A high-ranking YouTube exec is caught on video admitting that they are trying to fight efforts to break them up because, “all these smaller companies who don’t have the same resources that we do will be charged with preventing the next Trump situation, it’s like a small company cannot do that.”

San Diego City Attorney, Mara Elliott has asked the City Council to consider a draft ordinance that would require mandatory locked storage of firearms in the home and would propose a conflicting law regarding the reporting of lost or stolen firearms. Ms. Elliott works closely with gun control advocates in the City and made a strong effort to justify her request for the City to take action at the June meeting of the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee. While the Committee was divided on the issue, the proposal did get enough votes to put it before the full City Council for consideration.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced that his office affirmed concealed carry recognition between West Virginia and seven other states.

The recognition means that those with concealed handgun licenses issued to West Virginians who are 21 years old and older will be recognized in Virginia, Alabama, Arizona, Nebraska, Nevada, Tenessee and Utah.

"Mountaineers are always free, and that includes the freedom to exercise their Second Amendment rights when traveling to other states," Morrisey said. "This is a victory for gun owners and shows respect for concealed carry licenses between states."

...John Lott, president of the Crime Prevention Research Center and the author of More Guns, Less Crime, among other books, just had his account blocked by Twitter for sending the tweet: “New Zealand’s killer’s manifesto says that he did attack to get more gun control/gun bans in New Zealand and the US, Killer was a socialist, environmentalist who hated capitalists and trade.” Lott then put a link in to send people to a story on his website that explained, with more links, that his tweet is accurate.

Twitter then blocked Lott’s account, but neglected to tell him why. Twitter did send him a note saying his account was blocked and that it “violated the Twitter Rules, Specifically for:” but then it didn’t list anything after the colon.

Some time later, the suspects allegedly broke into the home and immediately exchanged fire with the homeowner, who had armed himself with an AR-15 rifle. The gunfight left two suspects dead and the homeowner suffering from gunshot wounds.

Deputies cited by Click Orlando said that when investigators arrived on the scene, one of the alleged intruders, identified as 21-year-old Keith Jackson Jr., was dead. He was reportedly wearing a Jason Voorhees mask from the movie “Friday the 13th” and had a semiautomatic pistol with the slide locked back, suggesting a fully spent magazine.

'Red Flag' laws and their awful consequences

Since the horrific murders in Parkland, just minutes from my hometown in South Florida, our country has seen a renewed push for more restrictive gun laws. Assault weapon bans, restrictions on the storage of firearms, and pushes for every type of gun law appear at both the federal and state level. While most of these propositions have fizzled out, red flag laws—those allowing police to pre-emptively confiscate a person’s firearms—have exhibited the most staying power.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A state may not impose a charge for the enjoyment of a right granted by the federal constitution... The power to impose a license tax on the exercise of these freedoms is indeed as potent as the power of censorship which this Court has repeatedly struck down... a person cannot be compelled 'to purchase, through a license fee or a license tax, the privilege freely granted by the constitution.' —MURDOCK V. PENNSYLVANIA 319 US 105 (1942)
