Officials with the Polk sheriff’s office said in a statement that Boek, 34, “aggressively approached” the Uber from behind, then briefly pulled up beside it before cutting off the driver and forcing him to stop. Boek emerged from a pickup truck carrying an object in his hand, which turned out to be a cellphone, and shouted at the driver: “You know I got a pistol. You want me to [expletive] shoot you?” according to video released by authorities.

Authorities said the Uber driver, 38-year-old Robert Westlake — who is an armed security guard and is licensed to carry a concealed weapon — pulled a handgun and opened fire, fatally shooting Boek in the chest.

Where for generations Americans needed look no further than the belt of their local deputies for guidance in selecting a defensive firearm, Massachusetts’ restrictions prohibit these very same arms from civilians. Those firearms selected by experts for reliability and overall utility as defensive weapons, would be unavailable for the lawful purpose of self-defense. According to Massachusetts, these law enforcement tools aren’t defensive, but instead implements of war designed to inflict mass carnage.

Meanwhile, Raimondo’s opponents lined up to critique the governor’s position. Rhode Island independent candidate for governor Joe Trillo said Raimondo is “potentially putting children’s lives” at risk with this directive limiting guns on Rhode Island school grounds.

“Governor Raimondo and RIDE Commissioner Ken Wagner’s directive to only permit active and visibly identifiable law enforcement personnel to carry guns onto Rhode Island school grounds is a terrible mistake that could cost more student lives than she realizes,” said Trillo.

The state of Louisiana recently held some members of the corporate social police accountable for discriminating against law-abiding Americans.

By a vote of 7-6, the State Bond Commission excluded Citigroup and Bank of America from the running for a lucrative state contract. Our reason for doing so: these corporations had introduced bank policies that restrict legal access to firearms and bank misrepresentations on those policies.

While our governor and his allies sided with these anti-gun corporations, conservatives stood together to protect the Second Amendment rights of Louisiana citizens.

As a public school teacher in the great state of Florida, I have solved the Legislature’s dilemma regarding gun control and the Second Amendment: bulletproof vests for teachers.

The idea came to me after recently reading about U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ idea to provide federal funds to states so they can buy weapons for teachers. I bet there’s a way to finagle buying vests to go along with those guns. After all, there’s an estimated $1 billion in the federal Student Support and Academic Enrichment grant program.

Known as the Combatting Illegal Gun Trafficking Act, Senate Bill 337 mandates that gun shops take real steps to safeguard against straw purchases. Gun dealers would be required to keep their inventory safe from burglars and smash-and-grab robbers, create and retain accurate and complete records of gun sales that could help police investigate and arrest straw purchasers, maintain video surveillance of purchases, and train employees on how to identify these straw purchasers.

Velshi’s statement is perhaps more troubling. He appears to believe it’s selfish to vote for politicians who believe that abortion is the deliberate taking of a human life, and who would try to enact legislation to limit and prevent such a procedure. He also seems to believe that it’s selfish to desire that one’s right to self-defense, one’s constitutionally guaranteed right to own firearms as a check against a potentially tyrannical government, is protected.

During the Obama years, Waltz saw a business boom that helped him afford a boat and an RV. But Trump's presidency caused an immediate drop in sales, he told the Journal. While there is no data on sales for the whole industry, background checks are down 11 percent, per FBI analysis. As a Maine gun manufacturer put it, there's just no "fear-based market" pushing gun lovers to stock up anymore.

Activists with pro-gun groups are applauding a federal appeals court’s recent dismissal of a lawsuit challenging a Texas campus carry law. The ruling dealt a blow to the three professors who sought to nullify the law on First Amendment grounds.

This is the second time the professors have lost the case in court. The suit was thrown out, and the concealed carry law upheld, by a federal district judge in July of 2017. Now the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has upheld that decision, Inside Higher Ed reported, with the court stating that “none of the cited evidence alleges a certainty that a license-holder will illegally brandish a firearm in a classroom.”
