As fall approaches, and the holidays near, it’s time for me to consider a visit to Colorado to see my family. Bring on the eggnog and homemade mead! It’s also past time to start letting my four year-old daughter practice with her BB gun. She’s been going to preschool through summer because her best friend was going, and I was unsure of when we were moving, so I put it off.

Recently I was invited to try out a new product named Mantis. The device, just smaller than a weapon mounted light, attaches to the Picatinny rail of your pistol and analyzes your shots in order to help you improve your shooting ability and precision. Frankly, I was really skeptical, but after testing it, I was quite surprised by its potential as training aid and want to get the word out.

Force Science Institute: Memory of Shooting Inherently Unreliable

According to a Force Science Institute study, a police officer’s memory after a shooting is highly unreliable. Same goes for you. That’s why you should never agree to a post-defensive gun use police interview without a lawyer present (but do provide details that can help the police apprehend criminals or identify witnesses). “Investigators need to remember that an officer who misses or misstates information about an event that later becomes significant is not necessarily being deceptive or self-serving,” the report recommends.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821)
