... "In response to Bill Thompson: Mr. Thompson’s argument seems to be that he has a First Amendment right to a 'sense of security' and that this right somehow requires the nullification of the Second Amendment and taking away the rights of his fellow citizens. Well, let me be brief on this point: No, it does not. Nowhere in that document is there any mention of a 'right to a sense of security.'"

"Mr. Thompson further compares gun ownership to driving a car and a few other activities that require licensing or background checks under government regulation. Here’s the problem with this line of argument: None of the things mentioned are rights that are protected by the Constitution. ..." ...

Alas, I suspect facts will not avail to persuade Mr. Thompson or others of his ilk. Et al they are motivated by a drive far deeper than reason. Fear. A deep-seated fear of base emotions we all experience, but control.

For whatever reasons, (socialization, rearing, psychological) , fearing they can't control their impulses given opportunity, they expunged their guilt by transferring their craven desires to others. Nor will they be content with guns. Next it will be sharp objects like kitchen knives, or axes. Then blunt objects like baseball bats, golf clubs, ad infinitum. And since asocial criminal elements merely ignore their phobia, they only have the law-abiding left.
