"A Benicia High School sophomore was arrested Friday on campus after concealing a loaded pistol in his back pack, according to police who say school staff handled the potentially dangerous situation improperly."

"A campus supervisor, who escorted the 16-year-old Vallejo student to the office, said her life and students' lives were endangered because of administrators' questionable response. She was so upset by the incident, she turned in her keys and radio Friday and quit." ...

"Powers said she escorted the student to the office holding his back pack, having no clue a loaded .40 caliber pistol was inside. School officials, who knew of the rumor, never told her why she was escorting the special education student, she said." ...

Idle thought - there is no "correct" way to abuse people who aren't doing anything wrong. They handled the situation improperly? They had to guess. If something actually wrong had been happening, the response would likely have been much more clear.

Schoolchildren learn very early that the educational system is unable to protect them. Survival reigns supreme. Every news article written about this topic infers the children would be safe if only they didn't bring guns to school.
