A writer for the Huffington Post noted in a recent piece — “A Revision on the Bill of Rights, Part III” — that the Second Amendment certainly gives Americans the right to “carry and have a stockpile of guns.”

But Justin Curmi seems to have a bit of an issue with the right to “self-defend with a firearm.”

“The main problem with the notion of self-defense is it imposes on justice, for everyone has the right for a fair trial,” he writes. “Therefore, using a firearm to defend oneself is not legal because if the attacker is killed, he or she is devoid of his or her rights.”

How does one really argue against this type of totally idiocity?
Really?
The honest gun owner has no right to his own life? Will THAT persuade this ... "liberal writer?"
I guess he'd say no there is no right to life.
No reasonable citizens WANTS to KILL the badguy, he wants to STOP the badguy from KILLING HIM. Unfortunatly, shooting in self defense does involve some certain risk of dying, no matter what.

Yes, if the BG survives he has a right to trial.
But right to life supercedes right to trial.

In flagrante delicto, a violent criminal attacker forfeits his rights, including his right to life. No one, least of all the defender, is 'depriving' him of anything - he has waived them by his actions.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands? — Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836
