"Blurring the line between church and state threatens civil liberties and privacy, says former President Jimmy Carter. That's the case he makes in his new book, Our Endangered Values: America's Moral Crisis, which draws on Carter's experiences as a president and a Christian." ...
"Concerning gun control, an overwhelming majority believe in the right to own weapons, but four of five Americans prefer modest restraints on handguns, including a background check, mandatory registration, and a brief waiting period before one is purchased."
"A disturbing change in government policy has involved the firearms industry. Supported by succeeding Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton, legislation was passed by Congress in 1994 that for ten years prohibited the manufacture, transfer, and possession of nineteen specific semiautomatic assault weapons, including AK-47s, AR-15s, and UZIs. None of these are used for hunting -- only for killing other humans." |

It never ceases to amaze me that the demonrats wail loudly about our rights being eroded yet they whine loudly about us having the types of guns best suited to defending our rights. Jimmy Peanut Carter was a failed president, a failed intellect, and the only good thing he's ever been involved in that was any goo was habitat for humanity. I think someone there must have dropped a hammer on his head by mistake. |

Jimmy Carter is and always will be a threat to OUR traditional values. Internationalist Carter provides us with the usual anti-gun extremist leftist political tag lines and notes. No surprises here.
So extreme. So predictable. So boring. |

| Terry forgot to mention the nearly 20% interest rate, that the 55 hostages were kept there for A YEAR, or the Carter "paralysis by analysis" theory of foreign policy. He perpetuated the general "hate America first" hippie liberal attitude and was swept out of office by a nation that wanted a man of ideas and action. He was a lousy president, and he should stick to building homes for the less fortunate. |

Well, Jimmy, maybe the Right to Keep and Bear Arms isn't endangered back home in Georgia, but maybe you should look into the health of that Right in Chicago, or NYC, or DC, or California, or NJ.
Maybe you should get your facts straight before you shoot off your mouth. |

| I don't know, I took my AK-47 deer hunting one time. Surprisingly, it never jumped from my hands and went on a shooting spree. Nor did it cause me to want to go on a shooting spree. |

| What a dumb ass is Carter to make a statement that may be loosely translated as, there does not exist in this list one example used for hunting. Or, contrarywise, for all items in this list, all are used for murder only. A smart freshman might know that one counter-example falsifies his assertion. What a dumb ass. Get US out of UN. Get UN out of US |

Jimmy, the radiation from when you were in the Navy must be taking it's toll, you obviously have been brainwashed by the Brady Bunch now due to your weakened brain. Of course that does NOT explain your horrible term as El Presidente. I use MY AR-15 EVERY YEAR for deer hunting. I usually put a larger caliber upper receiver on it but, .223 is LEGAL for deer hunting in Maryland, with the right rounds. |

And by the way, I'm a Southern Baptist, and Carter doesn't speak for me. If it wasn't for him and Lyndon Johnson, two of the worst Presidents we've had since Warren Harding, and both Democrat, we'd have much more freedom.
In 1954, at the height of the McCarthy era, Senator Lyndon B. Johnson sought a legislative route to silence some of his anticommunist critics. Encouraged by Johnson, the U.S. Senate passed a major tax code revision by a voice vote, and the IRS now uses it to silence free speech from the pulpit. It has nothing to do with church - state separation.
Just because Jefferson sent a letter to the Danburry Baptists, doesn't mean its in the Constitution. There is no church - state separation. |

I heard Carter on Larry King last night, talking about the principles in our Constitution. They say the Devil can quote scripture too, when it suits his purpose. I'd say he was the second-worst president in our lifetime. A close second, at that. |

"There are no real threats to our "right to bear arms," as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution," he says. No threat to the temporary, revocable privilege to have only the limited-capacity, slow-loading, slow-firing sporting arms the government says you can have, IF they're all properly registered and you're properly licensed. Why do I FEEL threatened? Unfortunately, people pay attention to what this mediocrity says. Stock up. |

| I take my so-called ugly deer rifles (militia style rifles) deer hunting. True they can be used to kill humans, but that is another reason to own them. Unfortunately, in a fallen world-one inhabited by sinners and evil-it is necessary at times to bury some problems. Peace requires that those who want tyranny be buried. The second amendment protects the right of the people to own fire arms to be used against a federal gov't that becomes oppresive and tyrannical. This scenario is discussed in Federalist 46. |

Pencils can be used to kill humans too, quietly. Something most politicians are involved in on a daily basis by writing legislation that impedes our personal defensive ability.
Hunting wild animals with a pencil will prove to be pretty tough going, and they are issued to children a few at a time without even so much as a background check.
Perhaps they should consider the regulation of pencils...

Remember.... This is the same President who thought it correct to seek the advice on nuclear proliferation with his daughter , Amy, who was about 8-9 years old at the time. Idiot!! He has in his advanced age and mindset become a puppet for the dems. He's goofy enough to say anything, and they count on that. |

ALMOST FORGOT!!! Anyone remember what Jimmy's first offical act as President was ? He gave away the Panama Canal. The canal is presently owned at each entry point (Alantic-Pacific) by the Chinese (CONCO). |

| There is a Simpson's episode that had a statue of Jimmy Carter at the town square. At the bottom of the statue was the engraved word "Malaise". I think that pretty well sums up the Carter administration. |

| first, being from georgia, I apologize for my fellow georgian, he has been brain-washed by living in Washington D.C. 2ed, I would like to know where the "four out of five" people live, that endorse waiting periods and registrations for gun owner ship. And third, Jimmy, why don't you give up your secret service protection and see how you feel about using your weapons just "for hunting" |

| You should all consider that as bad as some Democrats may be concerning the 2nd Amendment it happens to the present Republican majority who are putting the 1st, 4th, 5th 9th and 10th Amendments in the toilet. Also Republicans who seem to think torture and disappearing AMERICAN citizens into foreign prisons on no known charges with no access to lawyers are just fine. |

re: kalebens, How right you are. The GOP swore that things would be different if they ever ran the show. they were right. It's ten times worse than Clinton. We may not have had another Waco but the groundwork's been laid for far worse. The government's only concerned with protecting itself from terrorism. |

gariders,
I think Carter may still be too traumatized by that "rabbit attacking the canoe" incident to go hunting - with or without SS protection. |

Reassuring to read that an overwhelming majority of Americans still ‘believe’ in the ‘right’ to own weapons. Expecting flack here… I favor a Federal ‘blanket policy’ prohibiting possession of firearms by ALL Non-U.S. Citizens;- exception given to States having enacted specific regulations and provisions for “permitting” possession of a firearm on an individual basis by Non-U.S. Citizens. Otherwise, Federal Law would mandate that any Non-U.S. Citizen found in possession of a firearm without a required “permit” would be detained without exception and without bail until deported. I personally favor the NICS background checks.

The 2a isn't about hunting, its about shooting enforcers of oppressive legislative will when that will doesn't reflect the will of the people, so arguably, guns esigned only for killing people are more in line with the 2a's protection than your squirrell rifle or rabbit killing shotgun.
And about the NCIS, it and the laws that create a prohibited class of purchaser is an infringment, TJ said no freeman was to be debarred the use of arms(origonal intent), if someone cant be trusted with a gun they shouldnt be trusted with a car, or to have children, or to have a bank account or to have access to household chemicals or butcher knives.... |

How would carter know any of this stuff? He was about the worst president we ever had, and most of the things he tried to do were massive failures! I think he is still out of touch with 'most' people. What he says does not reflect what I have heard folks around here say! |
