"Robbers invaded a Southwest Side jewelry store on Wednesday, triggering a gun fight. Four people, including the alleged robbers, were injured in the shootout."

"It was a wild scene ... when a pair of robbers pretending to be customers walked into Sergio V. Jewelry. But the robbers picked on the wrong guy."

"The store owner, Sergio Vasquez, is known around the neighborhood to be a man who doesn't put up with any nonsense at his shop. He was behind the counter when the robbers walked in." ...

"Investigators said the robbers walked in with a briefcase and when they pulled their guns, Vasquez grabbed his and all three opened fire. Both robbers were hit and so was a jeweler in the back of the store. ..." ...

See what happens when a gun owner tries to take the law into his own hands? We have a wild west shoot out where innocent people are hit by flying bullets. If the store owner had no gun and had just given up what the poor unfortunate young men had wanted there would have been nobody hurt and those young men could have safely left the store and continued on with their lives and they mommas wouldnt be crying today. Obama man, when he president, will take the guns from you white mofos.

I too hope this is sarcasm.

WBBM is trying to make this sound like some wild shoot-out attempting to create the image that all of this is a result of gun ownership.

But here’s the real image criminals are getting a lesson that people are not going to be victims.

Yes it’s bad that a passer-by was hit, but the criminals thugs started the whole incident and should be held responsible for his injuries as well.

I wonder if the store owner had a valid FOID card?

Studies have shown that not only do legaly armed civillans shoot more criminals than LEOs, but LEOs shoot more inocent people than legaly armed civilians. Besides the only proper outcome of an armed robbery is a dead armed robber!!!

Like KNIFE FIGHTS, Gun fights too r almost always very messy...

TEXAS LAW mandates criminals as liable & accountable-for all other's lives, damages, etc. "when in the commission of a felony w/a gun"; their sentences go up materially - including the Death Penalty if someone dies. Push for the SAME Legislation in your own State!

** Criminal Liability... An idea whose time has come!!!!!!!

Huh? The shopkeeper pulled HIS gun? I thought handguns were illegal in Chicago. Or, did he pull a SHOTGUN instead? Color me confused. According to what I've been led to believe, NOBODY can have a handgun in Chicago.

From reading the article, I don't know whether Vasquez had a handgun, or shotgun. My guess is, a handgun.

Sergio Vasquez to any one of us, is a true hero. He did what he had to do, to protect his life, his customers and his business. To a Chicago police officer, he "took the law into his own hands". That's why he won't get a citizen's hero citation.

Meanwhile, Richie Daley foams at the mouth, and wonders why law-abiding people should have guns in Chicago. Sergio Vasquez should sit down with Daley and explain it to him.

Put away your dancing shoes Sarah Brady. No Danse Macabre for you here!

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There are other things so clearly out of the power of Congress, that the bare recital of them is sufficient, I mean the "...rights of bearing arms for defence, or for killing game..." These things seem to have been inserted among their objections, merely to induce the ignorant to believe that Congress would have a power over such objects and to infer from their being refused a place in the Constitution, their intention to exercise that power to the oppression of the people. —ALEXANDER WHITE (1787)
