"Actually, I made my intentions -- made my views clear. I did think we ought to extend the assault weapons ban, and was told the fact that the bill was never going to move, because Republicans and Democrats were against the assault weapon ban, people of both parties."
"I believe law-abiding citizens ought to be able to own a gun. I believe in background checks at gun shows or anywhere to make sure that guns don't get in the hands of people that shouldn't have them."
"But the best way to protect our citizens from guns is to prosecute those who commit crimes with guns." ...
"And the prosecutions are up by about 68 percent -- I believe -- is the number." ... -------
KABA Note: That depends on how you define "gun crimes". If you are talking people who have harmed no one, nor threatened harm, but are in violation of some unconstitutional ex-post facto laws, then yes, prosecutions are up. If you are talking about locking up violent, serial predators and keeping them locked up? Not so much. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. — Ronald Reagan |
