FT. WORTH, TEXAS -- A man was fatally shot and another was wounded in an argument between acquaintances outside an east Fort Worth convenience store, police said.

About 9 p.m. Friday, a man was using a telephone outside the Eastside Grocery in the 2700 block of Sandy Lane when two men drove up and exchanged words with the man on the phone, homicide Detective Michel Carroll said.

A fourth man, identified as 21-year-old Willie Evans, then arrived at the store as the man on the phone ended his call and got into his vehicle.

Evans then punched out a window in the caller's car, Carroll said. As the caller began to drive away, he pulled a gun and began shooting.

Evans was shot and another man, whose name was not released, was wounded in the leg, police said.

Nick Kassira, owner of the Eastside Grocery, was inside the store when the shootings occurred.

"We thought it was firecrackers," Kassira said. "Then we heard three more shots. We called 911. It just happened so fast."

Evans was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died. The wounded man remained in Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital Saturday.

No arrests have been made, police said.
