Response to Gun Bogotry in Denver Post

from Donald Bohlken

I submitted the following letter today in response to the Woody Paige's anti-gun sports column in the September 17th Denver Post which is at:

To the editor:

I had the misfortune to read, on the internet, Woody Paige's asinine attack on lawful gun ownership. Mr. Paige is so biased against guns and gun owners that he is offended because American Nancy Johnson received the first gold medal of the 2000 Olympics by winning the ten meter air rifle competition.

Paige does not even understand that air rifles aren't firearms. These devices are "pellet guns" which propel tiny .17 caliber pellets using air power, not gunpowder. Indeed, Mr. Paige's hatred of gunowners and shooting is so great that his column is laced with bigoted remarks such as equating squirrel hunting with shooting one's neighbor and elk hunters with gang members.

The only value of Paige's column is that it demonstrates the animus of the American press against guns and gunowners.
His bigotry is sadly typical.

The Denver Post owes Nancy Johnson an apology on its editorial page. At the very least, the Post should say to her what it cannot legitimately say to Paige: "Congratulations, job well done!"

Sincerely,

Donald Bohlken
