GOOSE CREEK - Berkeley County investigators do not expect to file charges against a bar owner who shot a man who broke into his business early Sunday, authorities said Monday.

Sheriff's office Capt. Ricky Driggers said it appears the bar owner was protecting himself and his property when he wounded the suspect.

Allen Ray White, 39, of Annette Drive, was shot in the head and chest at the Good Time Bar and Grill on Red Bank Road. He was listed in serious condition Monday at Medical University Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

White is expected to recover and be charged with burglary, Driggers said.

The bar owner, 38-year-old Michael Colbourne, told deputies he shot the suspect when the man came at him with a crowbar shortly after 4 a.m. Colbourne, who had been repairing a freezer, surprised the man as he tried to pry open a video game machine, authorities said.

On Monday, a woman who identified herself as Colbourne's wife said he would have no comment on the shooting. She said the family was trying to put the incident behind them.
