McCue said prior to Sept. 11, he would have cooperated with hijackers, hoping to land the plane so experts could negotiate. "Those days are over," he said. "They will not gain entry into the cockpit."

So if pilots are not armed and the cockpit is still sealed with a simple door, exactly how will armed terrorists be stopped? Tasers? No, tasers are one shot weapons that can be defeated by heavy clothing. Oh, and yes I said armed terrorists. Who knows what they can get onto a plane? I have a friend of the family that works for an airline maintenance crew. When planes reach their 100,000 mile service (or was it 300,000? I forget) he mentioned they remove all the seats in the aircraft to do maintenance. There were a number of seats on one flight that had box cutters taped to the bottom. The FBI came in and started questioning, etc...blah blah. My point is that there is NO way, you can fully secure an airplane. The pilot is the very last line of defense. Arm him or her.

'Sky Marshals' are not an answer either. There are WAY too many flights to put people on, delays, itinerary changes, people get sick and have to be substituted... There's no sane way to keep a marshal on each flight. Not to mention, who are the marshals? Basically Federal rent-a-cops. What do YOU think of the mall-cops? These wouldn't be much better.
I trust the pilot with my life to get the plane in the air, to its destination and on the ground with no accidents. I really think I can trust him with a firearm.
