D'IBERVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - A shooting occurred during a home invasion early Wednesday, said Harrison County Sheriff George H. Payne Jr.

Deputies responding to a home on Dewey Lawrence Circle about 1:30 a.m. said Maurice Jackson had been shot twice in his lower body.

The residents told deputies that Jackson forced his way into their house and tried to rob them at gunpoint.

Jackson was taken to Biloxi Regional Medical Center. Authorities said he was in good condition, but he was expected to remain hospitalized overnight. The Sheriff's Department did not provide Jackson's age or address

Payne said the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
