MOUNDS, OKLAHOMA -- A shooting victim has died after mechanical problems with a medical helicopter kept him from arriving at a hospital, authorities said.

Creek County deputies identified the victim as Robert Alvarado, 20, and believe he is from Tulsa or Okmulgee.

Chris Wilson, 22, of Mounds shot Alvarado in self-defense, officers said.

The argument began over borrowed wheel rims and ended Saturday when Alvarado drove to Wilson's home and approached the house with a shotgun, said Creek County sheriff's detective Jolen Boyd. Wilson shot Alvarado after Alvarado pointed the weapon at him, Boyd said.

Wilson and neighbors gave first aid to Alvarado until emergency workers arrived.

A helicopter came from Tulsa to take Alvarado to a hospital, but transmission problems kept it from taking off. Alvarado likely would not have lived long enough to get to the hospital anyway, Boyd said.

The case will be presented to the district attorney's office for consideration, Boyd said.
