Self-defense laws vary by state, and in Kentucky, there are several components.

“If force is coming at you, you can use force that is proportional to that,” Wilson said. “So, if someone comes up to you and slaps you in the face, you don’t get to shoot them, right? It’s not proportional. A slap in the face is not deadly.”

Wilson said that deadly force was a bit different.

“A person can use deadly force if there is imminent force—force that is being used or is about to be used against them that would result in serious bodily injury or death,” Wilson said.

If a case involved federal officers, prosecution could become more complicated.

Leftists Riot in Minneapolis As Democrats Call Self-defense Shooting “Murder”

It appears that the law-abiding residents of Minneapolis should brace themselves for George Floyd 2.0.

Or so leftists in the streets and their Democratic masters hope.

The city wracked by violence after the Floyd Hoax in 2020 now appears on the verge of another eruption. This time, the hoax unspooled from an enforcement action by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, during which an ICE agent shot and killed a “legal observer.”

Democrats are falsely calling the fatal shooting a murder, and rioters have responded in kind, marching in the streets, burning flags and attacking a city courthouse. Worse still, far-left Democratic Governor Tim Walz claimed he is “at war” with the federal government.

A self-defense expert is advising people to brush up on their personal safety skills after a woman was sexually assaulted in an apartment laundry room Monday morning.

Springfield Police arrested Nathaniel Bradley. He’s in jail on charges that include assault and sexual abuse.

Jeff Cvitak from Martial Arts USA said the most important step in self-defense is to focus on what’s around you.

“Basic self-defense is ultimately being aware of your surroundings. It’s actually better than learning self-defense because that way you’re not having to be put in that situation. You’re actually being away from the situation before it actually gets bad,” Cvitak said.

In the nearly 35 years since Anthony Browne was convicted of two felonies in Iowa, he has earned a degree in computer science and a mid-level Department of Defense security clearance.

His right to vote was restored by then-Gov. Tom Vilsack in 2005, just eight years after he was released from prison. He has exercised his right to vote in every election since.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed an amicus brief in Rhode v. Bonta, a challenge to California’s unconstitutional ammunition background check law. This legal challenge is backed by the National Rifle Association and the NRA’s state affiliate, the California Rifle and Pistol Association.

This brief is a must read, as it is filled with plainly honest lines such as:

“California’s background-check regime for ammunition purchases is straightforwardly unconstitutional. Its purpose—the hindrance of law-abiding citizens’ exercise of their Second Amendment rights—finds no analogue among valid regulatory schemes of the past.”

New York would become the first state to require manufacturers of 3D printers to block production of guns and gun parts under new legislation Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed Wednesday.

The proposed legislation would also make it a crime to possess or sell the digital blueprints needed to produce 3D-printed firearms without a license to do so.

“From the iron pipeline to the plastic pipeline, these proposals will keep illegal ghost guns off of New York streets, and enhance measures to track and block the production of dangerous and illegal firearms in our state,” Hochul said in a statement announcing the proposal.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul plans to further crack down on the production of ghost guns as a new legislative session kicks off in Albany.

The proposed bill would  require all 3D printers sold in New York to include software that blocks the creation of ghost guns and their components. It would also establish criminal penalties for the sale, distribution, or possession of digital instructions for manufacturing 3D-printed firearms.

“ We will not allow do-it-yourself gun traffickers to convert their homes into unsanctioned firearm factories,” Hochul said at a press conference Wednesday at the West Hill Community Center in Albany.

DeStefano’s firm was one of 10 self-built arms dealers targeted by New York State Attorney General Leticia James, because they allegedly shipped gun kits to New York.

“She made a deal with the other companies,” DeStefano said. “They turned over all their customer data. I have more than 50,000 customers just in New York. My attorney even told me to turn over all my customer data, but I thought this isn’t about me. I am going to fight this.”

DeStefano posted one of James’ letters on social media, which demanded that he comply and turn over his customers’ names and addresses. His reply was also posted.

In the words of Brandon Scott, Mayor of Baltimore MD, “the sanctity of children’s lives should outweigh the sanctity of guns.”

Newtown Action Alliance and many other gun violence prevention organizations, have worked tirelessly to educate the public as a first step to quell the violence. A big step forward happened under the previous administration when the White House Office of Gun Violence was established to provide scientific approaches to the study of the underpinnings of gun violence in order to develop research-based approaches and solutions to lessen the impact of living in a society with a proliferation of guns coupled with ineffective protections for the citizenry.

A Fulton County judge has ordered the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office to turn over all of the property they seized in the investigation against Young Thug by 5 p.m. on Friday.

A Fulton County Superior Court judge dismissed a civil forfeiture case against the rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, in September.

The move allowed Williams to get more of his property back after he took a plea deal in October 2024, ending his part in the Young Slime Life RICO trial, which began in November 2023. The rapper was first indicted in 2022.

A coalition of 25 states, led by Ohio and Idaho, are opposing California's restrictions on ammunition in what the coalition claims are attempts to undermine the Second Amendment.

“California has spun a web of burdensome laws designed to stop residents from buying ammunition,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said. “The right to bear arms includes the right to buy ammunition – and we’re asking the court to once again declare these laws unconstitutional.”

Yost and his counterparts are urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit to uphold an injunction blocking California from enforcing ammunition background-check requirements, according to an amicus brief.

Pete, in addition to being a great colleague and accomplished litigator, is one of the top Second Amendment experts in the country. He has represented parties raising Second Amendment challenges in scores of cases, including before the Supreme Court in Snope v. Brown, where the Supreme Court last term narrowly denied cert in a case challenging Maryland’s ban on AR-15 rifles. He has also argued nearly 20 Second Amendment cases in the federal courts of appeals in the two-and-a-half years since the court decided New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen, in which it held that New York’s concealed carry law violated the Second Amendment.

Some of the new gun laws set to take effect in Colorado this summer have gotten mixed reactions.

Those who support the new laws say they will improve public safety. Those against them say they infringe on Second Amendment rights.

Senate Bill 25-003 has seen the most controversy. The law is set to take effect August 1, and will ban the purchase of certain semi-automatic firearms unless certain requirements are met.

Those requirements include applying for a permit through your local sheriff’s office, then, if approved, taking gun courses.

The announcement by Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon that the Justice Department has filed an amicus brief in the case of Rhode v. Bonta, challenging California’s background check requirement for ammunition purchases, has been greeted with delight by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb noted how this amicus submission strongly reinforces DOJ’s previously-announced commitment to protect the Second Amendment. The plaintiffs won at the District Court level, and again before a three-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last July. It is now up for an en banc hearing before a full panel of judges in March.

On December 17, 2025, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit delivered a landmark ruling in United States v. Cockerham, striking down a lifetime firearm ban imposed under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1) as a violation of the Second Amendment. This decision marks a significant moment in the ongoing debate over the scope of Second Amendment rights, particularly for individuals convicted of non-violent offenses. The case centers on Edward Cockerham, whose sole predicate offense was failing to pay child support, a crime for which he served no prison time.

While most people were focused on the holidays—traveling, shopping, and spending time with family—New Jersey lawmakers were busy doing something else entirely. In a quiet lame-duck session, they pushed through a new package of gun control laws that didn’t get much public attention. That sneaky silence wasn’t an accident.

In a recent breakdown from Martell Training Group, retired New Jersey State Trooper and instructor Steve Mazagatti explains why these laws matter far beyond the Garden State. The short version: New Jersey is being used as a testing ground. What survives here is likely to show up in other states next.

California’s ban on the open carry of firearms in most parts of the state is unconstitutional, a San Francisco-based federal appeals court ruled Friday.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals determined that the ban, which applied to counties with populations greater than 200,000, violates residents’ 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Under those regulations, 95% of the state’s population was subject to the ban.

The 2-1 opinion was supported by two appointees of President Trump, U.S. Circuit Judges Lawrence VanDyke and Kenneth Kiyul Lee. U.S. Circuit Judge N. Randy Smith, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, dissented.

Just 25 guns. That's how many firearms were taken in as part of the Mark Carney government's gun “buyback” pilot program in Nova Scotia's Cape Breton region.

The government had been hoping for 200 guns collected in an area that industry experts estimate has at least 2,000 guns that the government has banned.

Instead, they got 25 guns, most of them from family members looking to dispose of grandpa's old hunting rifles they no longer wanted around.
