You are a petite woman married to someone twice your size. In an effort to be proactive in this time of increasing civil unrest, he decided to purchase several firearms strictly for home-defense purposes. Unfortunately, he made all of the purchases of handguns and long guns thinking he would be the one to put them to use if the need ever arose. That may true when he is at home, but there are often times when you are at home alone.

MI: Gun club pushes back on Macomb County's new policy

Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido has anew policy on guns: if someone commits a felony while holding a gun, it would mean two years in prison. But this tough on guns approach is getting a lot of backlash and skepticism.

Lucido wants to drop the hammer on the illegal use of guns. Namely, on felons with firearms and guns used in crimes.

"We’ve had too many officers lives being lost, we’ve had too many individuals that were innocent victims of crime sitting out there, and being targeted by the individuals that are breaking the law with guns. We have to take a stance now on those individuals that break the law as it relates to guns," Lucido said.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom used his second-term inaugural address at the state Capitol to take swipes at leading nameless Republican politicians. “They’re promoting grievance and victimhood, in an attempt to erase so much of the progress you and I have witnessed in our lifetime,” Newsom told the crowd on Thursday. “They make it harder to vote and easier to buy illegal guns."

When Stallone asks you to make him a shotgun, you make a shotgun worthy of Stallone, right? Beretta recently posted the details of a unique SO Sparviere (Italian = Sparrowhawk) for Sylvester Stallone. Made with walnut briarwood and Boehler Antinit steel, the series is part heirloom quality firearm-as-art and part upland game shotgun even before any engraving is done.

The full U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals last week ruled against the controversial Trump-era executive-level prohibition on bump stocks. In the 13-2 ruling in Cargill v. Garland handed down in a New Orleans federal courthouse on Jan. 6, 2023, the 5th Circuit is at odds with the Cincinnati-based 6th Circuit, the Denver-based 10th Circuit; and the Federal Circuit Court for Washington, D.C. This split could cause the U.S. Supreme Court to take up the case after batting away several other requested reviews on the subject last year.

The Illinois House of Representatives early Friday morning passed a bill banning so-called “assault weapons” which would prohibit the manufacture, sale or possession of such firearms.

A report at WLS, the ABC affiliate in Chicago, mischaracterized the targeted firearms as “high-powered weapons” and “large-capacity” magazines.

An editorial in the Star-Ledger of New Jersey declaring the Second Amendment to be “a curse” is drawing a testy reaction from gun rights advocates, and may have set the tone for further debate about the right to bear arms as 2023 unfolds.

Not even a full week into the New Year, and already battle lines are being redrawn over gun rights, which have been under attack for decades.

New Jersey has long been one of the worst states in the nation for law-abiding gun owners to exercise their Second Amendment rights, and the state’s carry laws are among the country’s most restrictive.

Entering 2023, state residents will find those laws to be even worse, thanks to a restrictive new carry measure, A.4769, passed the week before Christmas, quickly signed into law by anti-gun Gov. Phil Murphy (D) and soon to be contested in court.

Expanding Full Metal Jacket Ammo: EFMJ Bullets Explained

The expanding full metal jacket, or EFMJ, bullet is pretty unique. It was designed to offer shooters of all types an alternative to hollow points, with a nice blend of stopping power combined with little to no over-penetration. This makes the EFMJ the perfect choice for concealed carry and home defense ammo, because the odds of causing unwanted collateral damage to property or harming people on accident are lower than when using a standard bullet.

The EFMJ is patented by Federal Premium. They sell it in a few of their lines, but the Guard Dog line of pistol ammo seems to be the most popular.

The world of pistol-mounted lights can be a crap shoot. Some are excellent and do a great job, illuminating the target with more light than you probably need (but more is better, right?), while other lights, especially bargain bulbs, leave you in the dark, wondering if the battery is dead or the whole thing just gave up the ghost.

.4" Buckshot Ammo: .4" Buck Explained

The .4” buckshot size doesn’t get as much use by shooters as it probably should. A very nice home-defense round, .4" buck is also a lot of fun to shoot on the range. Pumping a few rounds into various-sized targets is very satisfying with this ammo type because the power and penetration is just staggering.

Sometimes people will see this ammo for sale either preloaded or loose, and wonder what exactly it is. The best thing to compare it to is 000 buck, which comes in at .36” diameter pellets. The .4” is slightly bigger, and the result is one of the most devastating sizes of shotgun pellets on the market today. The primary manufacturer of this ammo is NobleSport, a company widely known for their competition-grade shotgun ammunition.

After two retailers requested to open gun stores in residential Redwood City, the city council placed a 45-day ban on gun sales on October 24th. This would have been lifted on December 8th, but on November 28th, a unanimous vote extended the ban to ten and a half months. The Council voted to extend the ban so they could consider public input and study zoning changes, among other considerations. The Council could extend the ban to as much as two years as they make a decision. For the staff report on the decision, click here.

One is that, since these devices make semiautomatic guns fire about as rapidly as fully automatic weapons — which are heavily regulated and spray bullets when their triggers are held down — they should be treated like fully automatic weapons under the law
