Ryan Tennies was released from bond Friday, as District Attorney Eric Toney said he still isn't ready to make a charging decision from a fatal shooting in July which has self-defense considerations.

Tennies was arrested after allegedly shooting Christopher Ramthun during a disturbance on S. Main Street on July 23. He was booked into the jail that day on a possible charge of second-degree intentional homicide.

Initially, a $1 million cash bond was set. That was converted to a signature bond on Aug. 7, when Toney said he needed more time to gather evidence and review the case.

A Texas lawmaker pulled out a pistol during a legislative hearing while accusing prosecutors of failing to act on a threat to chop up his body and force the pieces down his throat, adding fuel to a broader fight over Travis County District Attorney José Garza's handling of violent crime.

State Rep. Richard Raymond, a Laredo Democrat, told the committee during a 12-hour hearing on Wednesday that investigators identified a man who made the graphic threat. He said he took the threat to the county attorney's office as a possible terroristic threat, but the office chose not to act.

A new term at the U.S. Supreme Court begins Monday.

The term follows a session in which the Supreme Court struck down the president’s tariffs and his executive order on birthright citizenship. Justices this term are set to hear a number of notable cases.

Among the cases on the docket is Viramontes v. Cook County, a Second Amendment challenge to bans on AR-15-style rifles.

Georgetown Law professor Michele Goodwin said the case is significant.

An Arkansas federal court ruled against Union Pacific Railroad on its argument that federal railway laws preempt an Arkansas state law allowing its citizens to keep legal firearms in their locked cars at their employer’s railway parking lots during work hours. The lawsuit “asks whether federal laws concerning the operations of railroads prevent this court from enforcing against a railroad a generally applicable gun-rights law adopted” by the state. “To cut to the chase, the answer is no.”

A Mahoning County jury, seated before Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John M. Durkin, acquitted the 23-year-old south-sider Friday on one count of murder with a firearm specification. Smith faced a minimum sentence of 18 years to life if convicted.

There was no dispute that Smith fatally shot 16-year-old Ty'Ron Perry Jr. on May 27 at Smith's Dewey Avenue home, or even that he shot him seven times. The question before the jury was whether Smith acted in self-defense.

The jury, which returned about 1:30 p.m Friday, apparently believed he did.

Defense attorney Frank Cassese lauded the decision.

Joseph Frederick Johnson is challenging 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1) as applied to a peaceable person. The Tenth Circuit treated Heller's reference to "presumptively lawful" felon prohibitions as conclusive and foreclosed an as-applied challenge. The brief argues that Bruen and Rahimi require every arms regulation – including those Heller called "presumptively lawful" – to be justified by historical tradition. That tradition supports disarming only dangerous persons, not everyone whose offense happens to be classified as a felony.

Richard Pearson, the longtime executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association and one of Illinois’ most recognizable Second Amendment advocates, received a Lifetime Achievement Award before a crowd of nearly 1,000 gun-rights supporters from across the country.

But Pearson made clear he isn’t treating the honor as a farewell.

“I’m not done yet!” he said as the crowd erupted in laughter.

The award was presented at the annual Gun Rights Policy Conference in Dallas, one of the nation’s largest gatherings of Second Amendment attorneys, activists, organizational leaders and grassroots advocates. It recognized Pearson’s years of organizational leadership and policy advocacy on behalf of gun owners in Illinois and nationwide.

New Jersey appealed a federal appellate court’s decision Thursday that struck down the state’s ban on modern semiautomatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit struck down New Jersey’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” in a July 17 decision, expanding a lower-court’s ruling that only applied to AR-15-style rifles to include many modern semiautomatic rifles and also declaring standard-capacity magazines protected under the Second Amendment. In a petition filed with the Supreme Court, Democratic New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport asked the justices to review the case decided by the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

On Wednesday's Morning Joe show, co-host Joe Scarborough gave no pushback to liberal author Malcolm Gladwell claiming that the Second Amendment was meant to apply to slave patrols as he complained about the U.S. Supreme Court making gun control more difficult to enact.

The comments came during a discussion of Gladwell's latest book, The American Way of Killing, which focuses on gun-related violence. After the first part of the discussion pointed out that European countries have substantially more police officers to help focus on crime compared to the U.S., MS NOW contributor Mike Barnicle followed up by comparing guns to a disease:

The court, currently controlled by six conservative appointees, has stocked its docket with fights over climate change, voting rights, gun rights and the power of the government over immigrants. It follows a term where the court addressed even more explosive issues like LGBTQ rights, race in redistricting and President Donald Trump’s attempt to redefine birthright citizenship.

While it may look like fewer blockbuster cases this time around, experts like Brianne Gorod of the Constitutional Accountability Center say they are still on the way.

“Just because there’s an absence of cases involving Trump administration policies, that doesn’t mean they are not coming,” Gorod said.

The latest version of the P211 introduces an aluminum frame, polymer grips, and a polymer trigger guard – changes that reduce weight while preserving the platform’s smooth shooting characteristics and familiar single-action trigger.

The P211-Full weighs 11 ounces less than the P211 GTO, while the Carry version cuts an additional 8 ounces compared to its GT4 counterpart. The lighter weight is intended to make the pistol more practical for concealed carry and potential duty applications without sacrificing shootability or easy follow-up shots.

In a landmark update for California firearm enthusiasts and concealed carry permit holders, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) official Handgun Roster added new California-compliant models, including the highly anticipated single-stack-style subcompact Glock 9mm (Glock 43X) pistol variant.

The addition marks a significant shift for handgun buyers in the state, who have faced tight restrictions under California’s Unsafe Handgun Act. To meet state compliance mandates, the newly added Glock model incorporates specialized safety modifications required by state law—including a mechanical magazine disconnect mechanism, a tactile loaded chamber indicator (LCI), and a manual thumb safety.

SIG Sauer’s 6.8x51mm (.277 Fury) cartridge was recently adopted by the United States Army, and is the chambering for the new M7 and M8 service rifles. The caliber also is offered in SIG’s MCX-Spear platform, which is the commercial version of the M7.

The downside to the MCX-Spear platform is the high price that accompanies the design. The price barrier has kept many folks from experiencing the benefits of the 6.8x51mm cartridge, but the new HYP is here to address that issue.

The homeowner, who was held at the Kalamazoo County Jail on an open murder charge, is being released while Portage Public Safety continues investigating, according to Getting.

Getting tells News Channel 3 his office is declining to make an immediate charging decision as investigators review whether the stabbing was legally justified as self-defense.

On September 30, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut granted the injunction in NSSF v. Griffin, a case brought by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Glock Inc., and two individual defendants.

In the opinion, U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley wrote: “The Court concludes that Plaintiffs have met their burden of establishing a likelihood of success on the merits. The statute is presumptively unconstitutional, and Defendants have not met their burden of demonstrating that the statute is consistent with our nation’s history of firearms regulation.”

The 2026 school safety bill is now officially considered the law of the land in Florida.

The final piece of the puzzle went into effect Thursday, and it deals with what happens not just on school property, but near it.

The new law created a 1,000-foot buffer zone around schools after state lawmakers raised concerns about shootings happening near these facilities and the potential for students to be caught in the crossfire.
