The National Rifle Association has agreed to pay a $2.5 million civil penalty for violating state insurance laws when it promoted policies to protect gun owners from the legal consequences stemming from shooting a person in self-defense.

“The NRA operated as an unlicensed insurance producer and broke the New York Insurance Law by soliciting insurance products and receiving compensation,” Department of Financial Services Superintendent Linda Lacewell said Wednesday in a prepared statement.

A Black woman in Florida is fighting to clear her name after she shot a police officer she suspected to be an intruder after he didn’t immediately identify himself while serving a warrant at her home.

Diamonds Ford was ultimately charged with attempted murder in the September shooting of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT team member. But she and her lawyer claim her 911 call during the incident will prove her innocence and show she did not intend to shoot a police officer. Instead, they argue, she was simply standing her ground, which is acceptable under Florida law.

The default answer to a long gun for home or self-defense has become the AR-15. For that service it may have even surpassed the shotgun in popularity. But there’s another long gun that deserves serious consideration for personal protection. It’s the gun that won the west—the lever-action rifle.

Amendments have been added to an existing bill that deals with antique gun sales. Toby Hoover with the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence says the changes allow more guns to be carried into more places and includes a so-called “stand your ground” provision when firing in self-defense.

"This one has got a little bit of everything in it. And there’s some pretty dangerous stuff in there," Hoover says.

Illinois is one of only four states that require a license to own a firearm, but the state is routinely failing to process applications and renewals in a timely manner.
“I have constituents who have waited more than a year to get a FOID card. That is denying them a basic constitutional right,” state Rep. Tim Butler, R-Springfield, said.
Twelve years ago, in Heller vs. District of Columbia the U.S. Supreme Court interpreted the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as a right to own firearms.

The deputies were responding to a 911 call regarding a suspicious man walking along a rural road who had wandered into a man's yard. Authorities have said the deputies had no knowledge of Martin's history of mental health issues when he ignored the deputies requests to stop. The deputies tased him to get him to the ground, but video shows Martin was able to get up and walk away from the deputies.

Attorneys for the 58-year-old man said Martin died in the grass after he was tased 15 times in 5 minutes. All three deputies were immediately fired and subsequently indicted on murder charges. But a judge granted immunity from prosecution--siting self-defense. Attorneys said Martin was unarmed, mentally unstable and never posed a threat.

Congratulations, Zonies! You just elected Beijing’s delegate, Mark Kelly, to represent Arizona in the US Senate. Start kissing your Second Amendment rights away, because Kelly and his wife will militate for total civilian disarmament (like Red China’s, maybe?).
Shame on you!

The battle for the soul of our country runs through Georgia. We must assure Republicans maintain control of the Senate by making sure David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler wins their runoff elections against their anti-gun opponents.

Trump has not conceded the election, and legal challenges persist. No matter our feelings about this past election’s legitimacy, we must prepare for the most anti-gun presidential administration in our country’s history. If Trump pulls out the win, I will celebrate, but I am a realist, and I know it is a long shot. In all honesty, Trump doesn’t have the support of the Washington elite, mainstream media, or the Republican party, and that makes the battle hard to win.

Montana is on track to become the 17th state to restore Constitutional Carry. It will probably do so in 2021. Constitutional Carry means most people can carry, concealed or openly, most of the time in most public places, without any special governmental permission or permit. It was the state of affairs in the young United States when the Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791.

In 2020, Republican Greg Gianforte won the race for Governor in Montana. Greg is the first Montanan Republican governor since 2005.
