Research Armament Industries (RAI), an American company, was the first to introduce the concept of a long-range sniper cartridge in .338 caliber in 1983. The idea was to develop a cartridge for the U.S. Navy that was capable of extreme long-range shots against persons and material. The company Nammo Lapua Oy, commonly known as Lapua, joined the project to manufacture the casings for the ammo testing process. RAI withdrew from the program during the testing process, so Lapua started producing the whole cartridge on their own.

Crazy Cartridge Confusion

In the beginning, Oliver Winchester’s company brought forth the first really successful repeating firearm with the .44 Henry levergun. This rimfire cartridge was a true .44 —actually almost .45 — as it used a bullet with a diameter of 0.445″, the outside diameter of the cartridge case. This was accomplished by using a bullet that had a base of a smaller diameter than the rest of the case and this smaller-diameter “heel” fitted inside the cartridge case. When Smith & Wesson brought out the first big-bore cartridge-firing sixgun in late 1869, they followed the same pattern using a bullet with two diameters, a smaller heel and the main part of the bullet being 0.441″. Then along came the Russians.

On its website, Dark Storm Industries, LLC, refers to itself as a gun company located “Behind Enemy Lines.” Those lines are the borders of New York State. Dark Storm manufactures firearms and operates a shooting range and retail establishment on Long Island. New York’s political leaders have become increasingly anti-Second Amendment, and thus have made life much harder for businesses in the shooting sports. So difficult, in fact, that Dark Storm is “crossing” those enemy lines and moving its manufacturing to the much-more-gun-friendly Titusville, Fla., located along that state’s storied Space Coast.

As the U.S. Supreme Court gets ready to hear New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, the Court may consider whether to elaborate on its statement in District of Columbia v. Heller that bearing arms may be prohibited "in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings." In this post, I will describe the legal history of laws against bearing arms in "sensitive places," and will suggest some guidelines for courts to use.

As women in Saudi Arabia enjoy new freedoms, including driving and travelling without a male companion, they are embracing unconventional hobbies.

Mona Al-Khurais has loved guns ever since as a young girl her father took her on hunting trips in Saudi Arabia and taught her how to shoot.

Five years ago, she turned that passion into her profession, receiving coaching in Saudi and abroad to become a licensed firearms trainer.

The 36-year-old now teaches shooting at Top Gun firing range in Riyadh, with more and more women joining her classes.

'I am so happy to practise my passion and my hobby as a coach and a range safety officer,' Ms Khurais said.

Gun collectors, beware. Certain Members of Congress believe if an individual buys too many guns, too much ammunition, or too many accessories, that person is a potentially dangerous criminal or a “domestic terrorist.” They also want banks to tell on anyone who might be buying too much.

I’ve been getting tips recently about an anti-gun effort that calls itself “The Denver Accord.” Looking into it I see stories going back to 2019, which surprised me, because I didn’t catch it at the time (for that matter, neither did AmmoLand or many other “gun” sites) and such things generally don’t slip by unnoticed.

POTD: Winchester Model 1893 Pump Action – An Infamous Whoops

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have one of the first notable instances of a firearm recall and the lesser-known big brother of the Winchester 1897. The infamous Winchester Model 1893 was John Browning’s excellent pump-action/slide-action design. These guns had a habit of exploding or having catastrophic failures in general. The recall bit of the story is a sort of two-part problem. One big issue is these guns came about during a transitional period in history in which the world was switching from black powder to smokeless powder. This means potentially a hot smokeless shell could be loaded into the gun and shot and cause this sort of failure.

Wisconsin’s Democrat Attorney General Josh Kaul just announced a $115 million legislative “wish list” that includes, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, an effort to strengthen the Badger State’s gun control laws, including so-called “universal background checks.”

The newspaper reported Kaul’s current opponent in the 2022 election—Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney—labeled the proposed package “a recycled, liberal wish list of ideas which shows he isn’t serious about addressing the violent crime epidemic.”

Not all of them, but those who are constantly in our faces certainly are thugs. Schumer, Pelosi, the Clintons, the Obamas, A.G. Garland, CNN commentators, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and NBC, the execrable Terry cAuliffe, and of course Joe Biden. Thugs all. Not one of them can utter a word without revealing his contempt for the American people.

To kill more grouse you need to know the basics of the bird’s habits and habitat preferences. It also pays to have a modicum of wing-shooting skills. Video: Wildlife Officers Rescue Buck with Antlers Trapped in Backyard Hammock
If there is any way a grouse can flush just when you don’t expect it, get a tree between you and the shot pattern, veer left or swerve right as you squeeze the trigger, this amazing bird will do it. And that’s on top of living in some of the roughest, steepest, brier-infested habitat imaginable, with grapevines and brambles vying to snag your barrel right when a bird erupts.
