No, said an Eighth Circuit panel in U.S. v. Jackson earlier this year; yesterday, the court refused to rehear the case en banc, so the answer is still no in the Eighth Circuit. Judge David Stras, joined by Judges Ralph Erickson, Steven Grasz, and Jonathan Kobes (a total of four of the eleven judges on the court), dissented from the denial of rehearing:
I have no special affection for felons either, but the Second Amendment does not care. It says what it says, and so do the Supreme Court decisions interpreting it. See generally U.S. v. Rahimi (2024); N.Y. State Rifle & Pistol Ass'n v. Bruen (2022). And what Jackson [II] [the panel decision] says about as-applied challenges conflicts with both. |

A Colorado law banning gun sales to people younger than 21 can now take effect, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned an injunction in the lawsuit and ordered the case be sent back to the district court for further consideration.
Gun-rights organization Rocky Mountain Gun Owners and two men younger than 21 filed the lawsuit against Gov. Jared Polis in 2023, claiming that the law recently passed by state lawmakers infringed on their Second Amendment right to bear arms. |

In a historic political comeback, Donald J. Trump has secured his return to the White House, defeating Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. The victory marks the first time in over 130 years that a former president has reclaimed the presidency, making Trump both the oldest president-elect and the symbol of a new era of conservative resurgence. This win not only reshapes American politics but also energizes a pro-gun, pro-liberty base that sees in Trump a defender of freedoms and individual rights. |

Major GOA victories included Senator Ted Cruz’s successful reelection in Texas and the defeat of anti-gun lobbyist Ryan Busse in his bid for Governor of Montana.
“With such a pro-gun mandate from the voters tonight, we’re ready to hold Republicans to their election promises to protect and restore gun rights,” said Aidan Johnston, GOA’s Director of Federal Affairs. “It is time that Congress finally enact national concealed carry reciprocity, destroy the ATF’s illegal gun registry, de-regulate suppressors, and quit funding unconstitutional ‘red flag’ gun confiscation laws.”

In a decisive outcome, Tennessee State Rep. Gloria Johnson, known for her fervent gun control advocacy, lost her bid for the U.S. Senate, with Republican incumbent Marsha Blackburn securing reelection.
Johnson, who gained national attention by leading a rally for gun restrictions on the Tennessee House floor following the tragic Covenant School shooting, hoped to leverage her platform to rally anti-gun support.
However, in a 64.2% to 33.7% vote tally Tennessee voters, valuing their Second Amendment rights, handed Johnson a smack down and Blackburn a clear victory. |

The death of Peanut the Squirrel, an Instagram-famous pet murdered by New York state wildlife officials, has ignited a national conversation about government overreach, individual rights, and the fundamental importance of the Second Amendment.
It turns out Peanut was more than just a pet; he was a symbol of personal freedom and the bond between humans and animals. His unjust death at the hands of rogue government authorities isn’t just about the loss of a beloved animal—it’s a glaring example of how far government intrusion can go into our personal lives. |

Anti-gun candidates took a beating in Tuesday night’s election, with Republicans winning not only the presidency but also the U.S. Senate. At the time of this writing, House races in some districts were still too close to call, so declaring a Republican sweep is still premature.
Leading the red wave was former President Donald Trump, who crushed through the “blue wall” and captured 277 Electoral votes at the latest count, compared to just 224 for Vice President Kamala Harris. |

The silver lining of Donald J. Trump’s re-election as the 47th President Tuesday is that for the next two, and possibly four years, he will be able to fill federal court vacancies, including any open seats on the U.S. Supreme Court, with Second Amendment-friendly judges and justices.
It was a repudiation of the policies of anti-gun President Joe Biden and his equally anti-gun Vice President Kamala Harris. It was also a triumph over Democrats from the Biden-Harris administration on down who had waged a war against the former president beginning when he first took office in 2017 and have not relented over the past four years in an effort to prevent him from running for another term. |

On Friday, NRA-ILA and other sportsmen’s groups filed a formal protest against the Biden-Harris administration’s plan to close recreational shooting access to 1.3 million acres in the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah.
Last month, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced a final Resource Management Plan that directs the closure of 1.3 million acres to recreational shooting in the Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. NRA-ILA, joined by other members of the Hunting and Shooting Sports Roundtable, filed a formal protest against the management plan.
Such a sweeping closure throughout Bears Ears fails to comply with a 2019 law specifically written to head off such actions by the federal government. |

Donald Trump made history overnight by becoming likely the only U.S. President since Grover Cleveland to win non-consecutive terms in the White House.
Although the election results are not final, most large media outlets that monitor ballot returns, including the Associated Press, Washington Post, and New York Times, by 5.45 a.m. on Wednesday had called the presidential race for Republican candidate Donald Trump. Trump's trail to become the 47th president after having been the 45th came via scooping up crucial swing state wins in Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In the states that had not been called by Wednesday morning, Trump was leading. |

Donald Trump has officially clinched victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, set to return to the White House as the 47th President. But the spotlight isn't just on Trump—Elon Musk, who has been an outspoken supporter of the former president for nearly a year, is equally in the spotlight. Now, many are saying that Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in Ocotber 2022 has paid off.
As one user put it on X, "You're soon gonna realize why Elon spending $44B buying Twitter was worth every penny. A move that every finance & M&A expert called stupid. Elon is peak benchmark of 'cracked', nothing human comes closer. Superhuman gigautistic intelligence." |

I am no stranger to Bergara rifles. I’ve been lucky to experience a great deal of shooting with a variety of their rifles. That experience has taught me to expect good things from their products, so I was looking forward to getting to know the Bergara Premier Canyon.
The Premier Canyon rifle is built around Bergara’s Premier action. Like the company’s popular B14 action, it is a Remington 700 footprint, which allows for a plethora of aftermarket support. Accessories like triggers, magazine systems, scope mounting options, etc., are mostly compatible with these 700 clones. That alone is one good reason for them, but the Premier goes deeper. |

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday near West Second Avenue and 29th Street, where 36-year-old Michel Lope Montes de Oca had called a mobile tire service to repair his vehicle. The mechanic, 29-year-old Brandon Hurst, arrived and began work.
According to police reports, Montes de Oca became irate upon realizing that the tire installed on his vehicle was a used one, not a new replacement as he might have expected. The confrontation quickly escalated, with Montes de Oca allegedly brandishing a machete and advancing on Hurst. Fearing for his life, Hurst drew his firearm and discharged it, striking Montes de Oca multiple times. |
