The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives suddenly withdrew its notice and request for comments on the “Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with ‘Stabilizing Braces’,” that was published Dec. 18 and had created no small amount of ill will for the holidays.

The agency released the withdrawal notice Wednesday only five days after its initial announcement, suggesting something dramatic happened. If the agency had experienced an Ebenezer Scrooge moment, the withdrawal came as an early Christmas present for American gun owners.

Commonly referred to as “non-U.S.” ammunition (due to the U.S. leaning heavily toward Boxer-primed ammo), Berdan primers are often used in other countries around the world. But that doesn't take away from their significance within the ammo industry.

Ironically, Berdan bullet primers were created by an American named Hiram Berdan (while Boxer primers were created by Englishman Edward Boxer.) It's unclear as to why the use of these primers is inverted, however, we do know what distinguishes each type as its own.

Georgia Rep.-elect Andrew Clyde arrived in the nation's capital with the unique distinction of already having federal legislation named after him. The gun store owner gained prominence for fighting back when the IRS suddenly seized nearly $1 million from his bank account in 2013. Not only did Clyde win his civil asset forfeiture case against the IRS, but he got Congress to pass a law last year so the IRS could never do it again.

The 2020 election has brought multiple constitutional topics to the forefront of our daily discussions, many of which are rarely discussed today. The reason is because these issues are no less important than they were in 1787. The method by which the U.S. selects its president and the subsequent peaceful transfer of power to which so many have been referring define our nation. It is one of many examples of a larger theme that limits power, which is returned to the people.

Federal regulators on Wednesday reversed their course on a controversial notice about firearm stabilizing braces in at least a temporary win for the Second Amendment community. Five days after the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives posted the 15-page notice and request for comments in the Federal Register, igniting a firestorm of criticism, the agency backpedaled and withdrew it. The action mimicked the rapid reversal on the proposed regulation on M855 Greentip ammunition in 2015 that saw a similar outcry.
